This role is list is responsible for assisting the Employment Specialists as they help our participants in identifying and obtaining competitive community employment. Maintains appropriate documentation records, case logs, notes, etc. as required and/or requested; The job duties entail:
- Assisting individuals in locating gainful employment
- Working with individuals who have disabilities (physical, developmental, psychological, neurological, sensory, learning, etc) of different ages and backgrounds
- Marketing and cold-calling employers to locate openings in the community
- Answering advertisements for employment on behalf of clients
- Coaching individuals in office or workplace settings
- Assisting in applications, interviewing, training, and employment paperwork
- Creating relationships with local employers and community services
- Case Management
- General office clerical duties
- Travel to local places of employment
Bachelors degree in human service field (i.e. special education, counseling) preferred. Must have a minimum of 1 year experience working with individuals with disabilities preferably in vocational counseling of special populations. Experience in case management also preferred. Substantial knowledge of vocational rehabilitation and employment services for the disabled, including, techniques of counseling for motivation appropriate to workplace situations. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Ability to establish rapport with customer; to evaluate customer progress, observe behavior, communicate observations and recommendations effectively in written and oral form. Must have active listening, social perceptiveness, and critical thinking and decision making skills. Ability to work well under pressure and handle large case loads. Must demonstrate the professional and personal characteristics required to work effectively with disabled individuals, members of the community, and other diverse people. High level of credibility, integrity, professionalism, and trust required. Working knowledge of Microsoft software , mobile/cellular communication device, and specialized testing materials/equipment required. Occasional holiday, weekend and evening work required. Must speak/read/write English.
