ABA BILLING SPECIALIST
StepOne Neurodiversity Services provides ABA therapy to individuals with autism. We are taking the first step in providing the highest quality, child centric, Applied Behavior Analysis therapy enhanced through innovation and technology. StepOne Neurodiversity Services is looking for an experienced Billing Specialist to join our team.
Qualifications
· Relevant experience with medical billing, preferably in a Behavioral Health/Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA billing)
· Experience performing billing with various insurance companies (UPMC, Highmark, Cigna, Aetna, and Medicaid in Pennsylvania strongly preferred)
· Must have experience in dealing with denials, entering ERAs, and processing claims
· Knowledge of Tebra or similar billing software package preferred
· Strong understanding of CPT codes (behavioral health background preferred)
· Strong understanding of ICD-10 codes (behavioral health background preferred)
· Experience running eligibility verifications and attaining authorizations for services preferred
· Strong knowledge of regulatory standards and HIPAA compliance requirements
· Well organized, attentive to details, and ability to manage multiple expected tasks and deadlines
· Possesses skills associated to both medical billing, medical coding, and AR/collections – both insurance and patient-related
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Teams, Excel, Outlook, and Sharepoint preferred
· In person, office setting strongly preferred
Responsibilities
- Execute policy and procedure for StepOne’s billing process
- Complete timely submittal of claims to insurance carriers (primary and secondary) for processing
- Follow up on denials, appeals and rejections until resolution, escalate when appropriate
- Enter ERAs into billing software system
- Perform individual account analysis for clients and answer clients billing questions
- Assist with monitoring and actively collect on client balances owed to practice
- Track denial notifications and maintaining claims tracking system for denied claims
- Check and verify client insurance benefits prior to their first intake appointment and alert clients of benefits
- Create and maintain clients' cards on file to ensure timely clients payments
- Review missing claims monthly with clinicians and ensuring timely submission
- Review claims for payments and posting payments regularly
- Review payments and fee schedules to ensure proper reimbursement
- Review clinical documentation to ensure proper coding is submitted
- Assist in provider credentialing and payor contracting and other administrative responsibilities
- Maintain HIPPA confidentiality regarding patient care information and file contents.

Work Environment
This role is preferably performed in an office with heavy computer work that requires the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing – including frequent talking, hearing, writing, typing, reading, and significant comprehension. The employee frequently is also required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, and reach with arms/hands. Regular and consistent attendance required. Ability to work well under stress and managing workload of multiple priorities.
