Job Description
The DON/RN shall act as an active member of the interdisciplinary team conducting at least, but not necessary limited to; assessment and screening, development of nursing impressions and recommendations, treatment planning and treatment plan reviews, participation in team conferences, case management, discharge planning and placement, intake and referral and other clinical duties. The RN will provide a valid and current Louisiana license prior to hire.
The DON/RN also

- Insures all levels of Confidentiality are maintained as required by HIPAA.

- Explain how to obtain alternate communication systems during emergencies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of incident report forms and uses them correctly.
- Indicates knowledge of OSHA standards and processes related to:
- Hazardous communications (MSDS)
- Blood borne Pathogens
- Infection Control
- Interacts in a respectful manner when working with patients and families.
- Provides assistance to individuals in a manner that takes into account their special needs or age related needs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Nursing Standards of Care.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Patient and Family Education.
- Identifies problems and needs of clients and develops a nursing plan designed to meet clients’ needs.
- The RN shall be available to the site in 30 minutes as needed.
- Assist Medical Director with verbal and written physician orders, prepares charts in advance for psychiatrist and restores charts to confidential location after visits with physician.
- Demonstrates ability to assist with on-call services and client care interventions as needed and in accordance with policy and procedure and documents all on-call services for current clients and 24 hour on call services including face-to-face interventions and weekend contacts.
- RN – Actively provides supervision to the nursing staff, including, but not necessarily limited to, LPN and documents such with co-signature.
- Facilities completion of state mental health screens within 24 hours of admission
- Acts as the liaison between residents and the school system (guiding the resident in all school orientations and IEP meetings, follow up with school officials for disciplinary issues to communicate with staff), between residents and parents/DCFS/OJJ for medication management, written letters of reports on medication, behaviors, and therapy compiled by LPNS, techs, and therapists.
- Answers phone and sets appointments for medical and clinical services, serving as a guide for individuals interested in admission.
- Conducts nursing assessments at admission and at time of discharge and completes paperwork nursing forms for admission and discharge
- Supervises LPNS
- Serves as charge nurse to supervise techs on shifts
- Sets appointments for medical, dental, and vision during hours in which he or she is on shift able to transport resident and communicates these appointments with staff.
