Position Summary
The Community Development Specialist (CDS) is responsible for building relationships with community partners and other resource providers (e.g., universities, local-city-state governments, etc.), while identifying community development needs for Wellby Financial in the assigned coverage areas in the Greater Houston market. The primary function of the CDS is, through effective partnerships, to increase member acquisition and growth for the credit union, to develop relationships and partners to assist Wellby with improving and maintaining positive public opinion of Wellby and increase awareness of all of Wellby’s products and services. The CDS will work with community partners to determine their needs and then work together with Wellby subject matter experts as needed to deliver solutions.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for delivering our vision of building lifelong relationships with our existing members and the community by developing long-lasting relationships with community partners (professional work groups, DEI organizations, non-profits, etc.).
Coordinates with Retail Branch locations for planned community partner visits and prospecting efforts.
Plans programs that promote good will and fosters relationships with community leaders.
Engages staff and works with community outreach programs, serving as liaison between management, staff and volunteers for the accomplishment of specific community-oriented programs.
Identify and suggest effective community relations programs and events, including sponsorship opportunities through local chambers of commerce.
Represent Wellby to potential Community Partners through approved marketing material, presentations, and virtual / phone interactions.
Organizes community outreach programs and coordinates special events that will influence public opinion or promote products, services, or ideas of the organization.
Uses social media to coordinate community relations.
Use KPIs to increase members acquisition and growth through our community partners.
Drafts and distributes/publishes various content pieces that promote the company, as well as individuals or groups within the company.
Responds to inquiries from community members and other interested parties; when needed, recruits a knowledgeable spokesperson or information source to assist.
Manage a supply of Financial Wellness collateral, promotional materials, and tangibles for events.
Actively identify and mitigate different types of risks, including operational and reputational.
Provide weekly reports and feedback to sr. leadership regarding performance and results for department KPI and metrics.
Represent and promote Wellby’s financial education and wellness offerings at community and corporate business development events as directed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
Knowledge of Wellby’s organizational functions and general operating policies and procedures.
Knowledge of basic math skills.
Knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation.
Knowledge of retail product philosophy, banking industry best practices, and regulations
Knowledge of personal computer, utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other software’s.
Skilled at interpersonal skills and ability to work extremely well as part of a team.
Skilled in high-level customer service practices.
Skilled in operating computer equipment and general office machines such as personal computers, copiers, projection equipment, audio/video, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Video Communications, and adding machines.
Ability to work outside of business hours when needed for events.
Ability to utilize excellent written and verbal communication with extremely high attention to detail
Ability to evaluate cost of a program and compare it to the benefits for the organization.

The team member will ensure policies, procedures, and programs are consistently administered, aligned with organizational goals, and compliant with professional standards.
The team member performs routine and generally related tasks without supervisory direction.
Tasks may occasionally have to be coordinated, integrated, and/or prioritized.
Courses of action are determined by established procedures and/or the VP of Community Development.
The team member’s work is reviewed periodically for accuracy, completion, and compliance with the policies and procedures.
The team member uses independent judgment in making decisions.

The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
Must be able to occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 pounds across the office and load them onto shelves for various needs.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Work involves the typical risks and discomforts associated with an office environment but is usually in an adequately cooled, heated, lighted, and ventilated area.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing or a related field preferred.
Minimum three (3) years of experience in a marketing role; business development / account sales representative required.
Minimum four (4) years of professional work experience specifically in the area of business development, outbound sourcing, financial services and/or event-/ trade-/ retail-marketing preferred.
Experience marketing B2C and B2B preferred.
Fluent in Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking) is preferred.
