Position Description
The primary purpose of the Director of Nursing (DON) is to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of our Nursing Service Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility. And as may be directed by the Administrator and the Medical Director, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees all nursing staff including ADON, RNAC, Staff Developer and Nursing Scheduler
- Responsible for the operations of the facility in the absence of the NHA
- Responsible for reporting, investigating and counseling regarding errors
- Supervises medication administration, identify issues/trends and develop action
- Responsible for department budgets and assuring cost effective care
Qualifications
- Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Must have, as a minimum, 2 years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility.
- Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state.
- Knowledge of long-term care regulations preferred.
