SUMMARY:
Provides nursing care for all patients safely while ensuring patient privacy following the standards of the surgery center. Functions as a resource for anesthesiologist, surgeon, surgical technologist, surgical assistant, nursing peers, and other members of the care team, in a patient-centric and collaborative environment. The RN Circulator is an integral part of the surgical team in an operating room. The nurse will be responsible for preparing the operating room as well as checking the stock of supplies and instruments. The OR Circulator will provide nursing care from assessment to outcome evaluation within the period of operation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Manage all the necessary care inside the surgery room.
- Assist the team in maintaining and creating a comfortable, safe environment for the patient and observing the team from a wide perspective.
- Ensure all surgical team members perform in a unified effort.
- Directs care and activities of the team by using assessment, diagnosing, critical thinking and planning skills.
- In addition to preparing the operating room, checks the stock of supplies and instruments. Problem-solving is a regular duty of a circulating nurse.
- Equipment must be checked and double-checked. If something is missing or not in working order, the circulating nurse finds a solution.
- The Circulating Nurse interacts with the patient before surgery and serves as a patient protector during surgery.
- Assessing the patient right before surgery is critical to making sure that all required prep was completed.
- Ensures a proper “time out” is initiated immediately prior to instruments being handed to surgeon and incision.
- Serving as a patient advocate and safety monitor, the circulating nurse observes the surgery and ensures that no aspect of patient care is missed.
- Properly documents all activities in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- The circulating nurse studies data and responds quickly if anything goes wrong.
- The circulating nurse confirms who should receive updates about the patient's progress.
- Maintains competencies to function in the RN role within specific area.
- Expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique, and universal precautions.
- Use, protect, and disclose patient's protected health information (PHI) in accordance with Health Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
- Performs other duties or projects as needed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Active RN License
OR Circulator Experience
BLS, ACLS, & PALS

Pay: $28.31 - $39.00 per hour
