Metis Construction is currently seeking an experienced Project Superintendent with a background in Commercial Construction to fill a key role within our growing organization. This position will report directly to the Executive Vice President of Construction Operations. The ideal candidate will have experience planning, directing, and coordinating field employees and subcontractors work activities. A premium will be paid for those willing to work outside of NE Ohio. Essential Accountabilities:
- Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Participate in the conceptual development of the construction project and oversee the scheduling, budgeting, and implementation.
- Collaborate with project managers, owners, contractors, or design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, or construction problems.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate field employees and subcontractors work activities.
- Plan, schedule, or coordinate construction project activities to meet deadlines.
- Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports, or cost tracking reports.
- Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes or other regulations.
- Plan, organize, or direct activities concerned with the construction or maintenance of structures, facilities, or systems.
- Study job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods.
- Investigate damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites to ensure that proper construction procedures are being followed.
- Prepare contracts or negotiate revisions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, or subcontractors.
- Develop or implement quality control programs.
- Implement new or modified plans in response to delays, bad weather, or construction site emergencies.
- Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to representatives of the owner or developer, including administrative staff, workers, or clients.
- Perform, or contract others to perform, pre-building assessments, such as conceptual cost estimating, rough order of magnitude estimating, feasibility, or energy efficiency, environmental, and sustainability assessments.
- Apply for and obtain all necessary permits or licenses.
- Evaluate construction methods and determine the cost-effectiveness of plans, using computer models.
- Oversee craftwork, such as painting or plumbing.
- Direct and supervise construction or related workers.
- Determine labor requirements for dispatching workers to construction sites.
- Requisition supplies or materials to complete construction projects.
- Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Requirements:
- Adhere to company safety standards.
- High School Diploma or GED, required.
- Some college or technical certification in Construction Management/Trade, preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in the commercial construction industry, preferred.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Ability to commute to various job sites (mainly in northeast Ohio), required.
- Valid driver’s license, required.
- Clear, accurate and concise written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated expertise in coaching, motivating and providing supportive leadership.
- Demonstrated abilities in planning, delegation, problem-solving, and decision making.
- Experience with accident investigations and prevention.
- Positive and goal oriented, willing to accept the challenge of new assignments and be able to work well with others.
- Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with emphasis on teamwork, customer service, and safe working practices.
