The Medical Assistant position is responsible for a variety of tasks for the care of patients from the waiting area to the exam room. They are required to document their work in the electronic medical record, treat patients in a timely and professional manner, and keep their work areas properly stocked, cleaned, and in compliance with applicable regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Receive and direct phone calls, check-in patients, obtain necessary patient information to file and update patient records, and ensure all forms and consents are completed by patients
- Assists physicians with patient office visits, which include, recording vital signs including pulse rate, blood pressure, height and weight, and entering information in patient electronic medical record.
- Prepares and reviews patient chart at least 72 hours prior to patient’s appointment. Reviews charts for completeness ensuring all required information is included; notes any deficiencies and utilizes all resources internal as well as external
- Organizes exam rooms, including general cleaning, upkeep, and re-stocking of supplies
- Check-out patients, assist with referral processing, and arrange follow-up appointments
- Assist physician with medical treatments, procedures, and exams
- Prepare patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room
- Scans all pertinent information into the electronic health record system
- Ensuring all recalls and orders are entered within 24 hours of patient appointment
- Performs administrative tasks, including form completions, prescription refills, referrals and patient educational material
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in healthcare administration or other related fields
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Previous experience in pain management preferred
- Experience in No-Faul and NJ/NY Workers Comp.
