RN Charge Nurse Job Summary: We seek dedicated and skilled Acute Care Nurses to join our Step Down Vent Unit team. As an Acute Care Nurse in this unit, you will be crucial in providing specialized care to patients transitioning from intensive care to lower levels of medical support. You will work closely with our respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and pulmonologists to ensure the highest quality for acute and chronic respiratory patients.
Pay range: $33-$40 depending on shift & experience.

RN Charge Nurse Roles:
Patient Assessment and Monitoring:
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' conditions, including respiratory status, vital signs, and overall well-being.
- Monitor patients closely for any signs of respiratory distress or complications related to ventilator support.
- Utilize advanced monitoring equipment and technologies to track patients' progress and response to treatment.
Ventilator Management:
- Work with our RTs to maintain, calibrate, and adjust ventilator settings according to individual patient needs and physician orders.
- Utilize case management skills to coordinate patient care services
- Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families on chronic disease management relating to respiratory conditions.
Medication Administration and Care Planning:
- Administer medications and treatments as physicians prescribe, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans tailored to each patient's needs and goals.
- Monitor the effectiveness of treatments and medications, adjusting plans as necessary to optimize patient outcomes
Patient and Family Support:
- Offer compassionate and empathetic support to patients and their families, addressing their concerns and providing reassurance during challenging times.
- Foster a therapeutic and supportive environment conducive to healing and recovery.
- Educate patients and families on self-care techniques, discharge instructions, and resources available for ongoing support
Documentation and Communication
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and meetings to discuss patient progress, goals, and discharge planning.
The Ideal RN Charge Nurse
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in OH.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in acute care nursing, preferably in a critical care or ventilator-dependent patient setting
- Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) required - training available upon request
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
