Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) prepares, trains, and places women in careers in the skilled construction, utility, and maintenance trades, helping women achieve economic independence and a secure future for themselves and their families. At the same time, NEW provides a pipeline of qualified workers to the industries that build, move, power, green, and maintain New York.
Founded in 1978, NEW is a sector-based workforce development program that focuses on placing women in skilled, unionized jobs in the trades with starting wages averaging $19 per hour, benefits, and a path to higher-wage employment. NEW serves women in underserved communities as well as individuals with underrepresented backgrounds including low-income girls, women, transgender, and non-binary individuals in New York City. NEW is the longest-running program of its kind in the nation and has helped thousands of New York City women secure skilled, unionized jobs in the construction, transportation, and utilities industries.
Nontraditional Employment for Women is seeking a Program Coordinator to provide follow up and support services to incoming and active participants as they navigate their trade careers. This role will support both the Admissions and Supportive Services Departments. The Program Coordinator will work to foster a tradeswoman community by providing exceptional customer service, thorough assessments, and thoughtful referrals to our participants. This role supports incoming and active students as they work to complete their pre-apprenticeship training and enter the workforce and with our employed graduates to screen and enroll them into our Childcare Program.
This position will report to the Vice President of Programs. Responsibilities
· Maintain regular contact with our applicants to assist them with moving through the eligibility steps of the program.
· Create, audit, track, analyze and submit data and reports to our funding partners.
· Work with several departments to ensure alignment to ensure participants are aware of all requirements and next steps.
· Create and refine tracking and assessment tools to assist with efficiency.
· Monitor and report on programmatic trends and metrics.
· Create, refine and conduct information sessions for participants and partners.
· Cultivate relationships with partner organizations.
· Act as the liaison to partner organizations working with NEW to refer individuals to our childcare pilot. Provide Technical assistance to all partners to inform them of the referral process to our childcare program.
· Work closely with VPP to ensure that there is departmental alignment between the admissions team and the childcare pilot.
· Related duties as assigned. Skills and Requirements
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, innovative thinker with coaching and/or direct service experience. S/he will possess the ability to take initiative, work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and think creatively. The following qualifications and experience are required:
· Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree or 3 years of work experience in a related field, such as workforce development, education, or social services.
· One (1) or more additional years of experience in career coaching, program management or project management in workforce development, or social services.
· Excellent relationship management and communication skills that support on-going participant engagement and collective community-building.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage individuals to develop strength- based solutions to workplace issues and personal career development.
· Advanced experience with data entry/management and analysis.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Knowledge of grant and contract management.
· Experience in case management, particularly with underserved communities.
· Knowledge of Salesforce
