POSITION SUMMARY
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care effectively and efficiently to patients with varied and complex needs from trauma or illness that requires emergency attention to less complex acuity. The RN must be able to work with limited supervision and may assume leadership roles with progressive responsibility including preceptor to newly hired emergency department RNs. RNs must possess knowledge of healthcare to include general and specific levels of treatment and provide quality care to patients of all ages.

Essential Functions
Ability/Performance/Knowledge Expectations
1. An emergency department RN must have the ability to make quick and accurate assessments on incoming patients, including both physical and mental health conditions.
2. Perform triage assessment on incoming patients and reassess as needed during care. Quickly identify the medical problems and documents medical history in accordance with company policies.
3. Evaluate all patients using appropriate assessment skills; provide appropriate nursing interventions and care while ensuring safety of the patients.
4. Utilize electronic and/or hard copy documentation system appropriately to reflect implementation of nursing process and care provided to patients.
5. Document and report all patient evaluations, interventions and adverse reactions as noted, while upholding HIPAA regulations.
6. Sound understanding and knowledge of the human anatomy and physiology required to provide the most appropriate level of care.
7. Determine priority of care based on physical and psychological needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow.
8. Able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in conditions or response to treatment of patients.
9. Responds to life saving situations based on skill and training levels, policies, procedures, and protocol.
10. Involved in the patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by the physician and/or facility policies and procedures.
11. Able to perform head to toe assessment on all patients and reassessment as per policy, including pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and the general patient population.
12. Able to adequately assess and reassess pain, utilize appropriate pain management techniques, and educate the patient and family regarding pain management.
13. Personally or through delegation, conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and saliva. Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens including proper labeling. Performs tests in an accurate and timely manner.
14. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical and health care errors.
15. Delegates work tasks and assignments to staff appropriately based on their skill and certification level. Offers oversight to subordinate clinical staff during assigned shifts.
16. Maintain awareness of all current operational policies and procedures which impact position responsibilities to include, but not limited to, HIPAA, Life Safety and Environment of Care policies
17. Personally or through delegation, maintains order and assist routinely with the general maintenance and cleanliness of the facility including but not limited to sanitizing patient care areas, making beds, and maintaining a safe environment for patients, guests of patients, visitors, vendors, and staff. Keeps work area clean and organized.
18. Utilize specialized equipment required for the provision of patient care services safely and efficiently.
19. Annual participation in drills/skills in-services as part of the annual evaluation to accomplish all goals of the QAPI and safety programs.
20. Maintains knowledge of basic equipment operations and is familiar with the operational manuals of the equipment utilized by the company. Must be able to effectively operate various equipment throughout the facility. Uses equipment according to the manufacture’s guidelines.
21. Demonstrates current comprehensive and professional knowledge and skills consistent with recognized nursing standards including the Patient's Bill of Rights standards for patient care, Texas Administrative Code, and the Nurse Practice Act.
22. Demonstrate knowledge of and adheres to regulations and facility policies and procedures pertaining to safety, Life Safety, emergency preparedness, infection control, OSHA, fire safety, hazardous materials, and environment of care policies.
23. Adheres to all regulatory and Texas Board of Nursing standards.
24. Remains flexible relative to changing staffing patterns; participates in temporary assignments; regular attendance; compliance with attendance standards; regularly attends required staff meetings. Demonstrates flexibility when changes in assignments are necessary.
25. RNs are expected to perform tasks and duties outside of what may be viewed traditional assignments for RNs.
26. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for periods ranging from 6 to 12 hours at a time. Use hands and fingers, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit in short or extended intervals. The employee must frequently lift and/or move more than 75 pounds. SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education:
Associate's in Nursing Degree Required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN Preferred)
Experience:
A minimum of 2 plus years of experience in Emergency Department or similar experience preferred
Computer Skills:
Familiarity with MS Office suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
Keyboarding/typing and 10-key touch.
Certifications & Licenses:
Valid State Issued Nursing License; ACLS; PALS; BLS/(Health Care Provider CPR) Required: TNCC/ENC Preferred
Pay: $48.00 - $53.00 per hour
