CERTIFIED OUTPATIENT CODER ASSIGNMENT SUMMARY
The Certified Outpatient Coder is responsible for processing patient-related billing, processing and submitting billings for reimbursement from Medi-Cal, managed care, My Health LA, Family PACT, CHDP, EWC: CDP and more. He/She will verify patient charts for accuracy and completeness, signatures and assembly in accordance with reimbursing agency requirements, and ensure proper billing codes are being used. The Certified Outpatient Coder will prepare statistical and other reports related to billing and coding. The position typically requires prior experience in HCPCS Coding

CERTIFIED OUTPATIENT CODER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates the release of progress notes.
- Ability to assign ICD-10/CPT/HCPCS codes to medical records.
- Demonstrate ability to understand and correlate the clinical content of a health record.
- Demonstrate the skills of working with Electronic Health Records, encoder, abstracting tools and different utilization systems: MS-DRG, APR-DRG (California) and APC.
- Ensuring compliance with various coding practices, ICD conventions, Official Coding Guidelines, CMS IPPS & OPPS rules, AHA Coding Clinic, HIPAA and other regulatory and compliance documents.
- Ability to use basic to intermediate PC hardware and software applications. Solving simple computer problems and ability to perform basic troubleshooting. Proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook and other healthcare and business applications.
- Strong communication skills on the phone and in writing.
- Create and analyze billing reports.
- Ensure high reimbursement rates by efficiency of billing codes.
- Ability to identify trends and patterns in billing issues, and resolve accordingly.
- Support billing department and accounting team.
- Work in conjunction with the QI team to help streamline and implement new processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
CERIFIED OUTPATIENT CODER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates Degree in health services , business, or other related field
- Coding credential required (CPC, COC)
- 2 years of current coding and abstracting experience in inpatient, outpatient and ER services utilizing ICD 9, ICD 10 CM/PCS, HCPCS and CPT coding classifications
- Excellent reading and writing ability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- 1 year experience with EMR
SCHEDULE:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
WORK SETTING:
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $25.00 per hour
