Summary
As an Emergency Response Registered Nurse (RN) for our Medical Special Needs Shelters (MSNS) operated by the Louisiana Department of Health, you will play a critical role in providing initial triage, medical monitoring, and care to individuals affected by disaster incidents who have medical needs they cannot manage themselves and nowhere to evacuate. MSNS shelters provide temporary living arrangements and safe refuge for these individuals.
Location: Louisiana
Possible rapid deployment site locations may include* but are not limited* to the following cities in the state of Louisiana: New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Alexandra, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Thibodaux. Hammond, Monroe, and Bossier City.
Duties:
- Provide general medical care and treatment to patients under the direction of a Physician or Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NP/PA), including times when the Physician is unavailable.
- Assist patients with daily activities, administer medications, monitor patient progress, educate patients and families on health management, and accurately document patient information.
- Ensure operational readiness for emergency care and treatments.
- Perform medical evaluations and provide treatments for occupational and non-occupational medicine injuries and illnesses within the scope of the contract.
- Conduct physical examinations and preventive health measures following guidelines and instructions provided by the Physician or NP/PA.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient clinical problems and healthcare needs. Discuss cases with physicians and other healthcare professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plans.
- Adhere to universal precautions regarding blood-borne pathogen programs for patient and personal protection.
- Follow regulatory agencies' standards regarding hazardous waste management and disposal.
- Accurately record all patient visits, treatments, and services in medical records.
- Administer medications and treatments as ordered by the Physician or NP/PA.
- Participate in all required training and response management.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:*
- Active, unrestricted, and current nursing license in the U.S. as an RN.
- Associate degree in nursing with a minimum of one year of related clinical experience required; bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
- Minimum of one year of emergency response experience.
- Ability to support a 24/7 shelter operation.
- Capable of working safely and adhering to all safety rules and regulations.
- Collaborative approach to enhance safety culture and quality.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand or sit for extended periods.
- Proficiency in pushing, pulling, reaching, and bending.
- Up-to-date vaccinations required.
- Strong multitasking, detail-oriented, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team.
- Proficiency in English; additional languages as needed.
- Availability to respond within 72 hours to designated locations when requested.
- Successful completion of the Credentialing Process.
