Job Title: Tooling Technician 1,2, 3rd shifts open
Department: Operations -Engineering
Reports To: Group Leader / Engineering
Location: Cartersville
Summary
Provides technical expertise and supports the Operations Engineering Team in the areas of Tooling. Work with personnel responsible for designing, fabricating and proofing new tools. Evaluate tools for capability, reliability and repeatability of tools and processes. Coordinates resources for tool tryouts. Develops, authorizes and implements alternative methods and interim solutions for damaged and unsafe tools and equipment to meet functional requirements. Participates in tool/equipment try-outs to ensure requirements are met. Troubleshoot and repair or recommend repair of existing tools. Supporting cost reduction and process improvement initiatives. Under minimum supervision, analyzes tool design and specifications for the purpose of determining how they are designed to function, performing all new tool try-outs and assisting operators when they have technical problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Provides technical assistance during process and tooling development to meet setup and while assuring process capability.
· Participates in Process Engineering Reviews dealing with custom equipment design and production processes to assure compliance to good engineering principles, company standards and customer specifications.
· Leads Team and CI efforts in area of assigned responsibility.
· Advises in the process of setting priorities for Tryout Resources to support tooling trials, CI projects, tooling design efforts, and production troubleshooting.
· Advises in the process of assigning daily responsibility to team members based on corporate and departmental needs.
· Participates in Process Engineering Reviews of layout for new equipment to assure proper through put.
· Ensure Tooling Capability, Longevity, and Production Repeatability.
· Oversees the Setup-Book Development.
· Provides technical support problem solving expertise to production, as required.
· Specifies or recommends material handling methods to insure safe handling of product.
· Sets up, tries, and develops new tooling including but not limited to new rolls, pre-notch dies, and cutoff dies which have been made to design.
· Produces first pieces required for approval to the specifications required working with Quality Assurance to assure compliance with specifications.
· Develops tooling to insure that it will produce quality product at, or in excess of, standard rate of, before tooling is released to production.
· Produces pilot production runs and verifies speed of production and quality of product manufactured. Familiarizes production procedures, lead people, and our operators with tooling and production for new jobs.
· Uses good communication skills to interact with customer, and communicate suggestions for improvement in tool design and tryout.
· Responsible for continued education on modern and high tech equipment, and for updating current tooling.
· Works within required time limits and assists others in learning about the jobs he/she is working on.
· Troubleshoots jobs already in production.
· Keeps all required records and maintains a clean work area.
Other duties as assigned:
Estimating:
- Review and provide timely and accurate estimates of costs including “specials”.
- Act as a resource to assist in development of subcontractor service specifications.
- Work with sales personnel and customers to develop optimum product design to fit our capabilities.
- Consult with operations, engineering, and tool planner on optimum product design to fit our capabilities.
Project Management:
Provide project leadership (Project Engineer) as defined.
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma with a minimum of 2 to 4 year’s machine shop experience. 3-D modeling experience helpful. The ability to provide direction to other Technicians or production employees is required. Task oriented the ability to complete project in a timely fashion. Minimum one-year certificate from college or technical school: or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer: Tooling experience or Technical Degree.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $31.00 per hour
