About the opportunity:
The Security Supervisor supports the Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Security department for all of Vail Health's facilities and assists with strategic planning associated with future healthcare security. Responsibilities include the protection of property, assets and people, and deterring the occurrence of crime at Vail Health owned and operated facilities and grounds. This is accomplished through the implementation of a hospital-wide security program developed in accordance with Joint Commission guidelines, industry standards, and hospital policies and procedures.
What you will do:
- Assists Manager with scheduling, new hire training, covering Manager PTO/low staffing, and other various administrative duties as assigned.
- Supervises security team members including contracted resources. Supports annual performance evaluations for security staff, including employment actions. Identifies and constructively communicates departmental issues and appropriately resolves conflicts in the supervision of security officer performance.
- Assists in the development and implementation of security related emergency procedures, staff education, practice exercises, and response activities.
- Conducts surveillance and investigation activities as requested or determined necessary in response to incidents and diffuses volatile situations through non-defensive communication and verbal de-escalation skills.
- Participates in daily operational activities necessary for maintaining a safe environment. These include (but are not limited to) conducting foot patrols of facilities and grounds monitoring for risks and/or hazardous situations; circulating among visitors, patrons and employees to preserve order and protect property; responding to alarms and emergency calls for assistance; monitoring situations; cameras, property and events.
- Documents all activities related to patrols, investigations, police assists, response activities, and other calls for service.
- Monitors and enforces parking regulations.
- Supervises and monitors all of the security system features (identification badge system, key control, access control, alarm systems, video surveillance systems, etc.).
- Conducts patient watches for mental health, substance abuse, or at-risk patients in coordination with clinical departments. May be asked to participate in management of patient's behavior, i.e. application of restraints, observation, physical management to assist clinician.

- Performs other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.

What you will need:
Experience:
- Three years of previous security-related experience, required.
- Experience in a healthcare setting, preferred.
License(s):
- Current Valid Driver's license and ability to pass Vail Health's Department of Motor Vehicle Report criteria, required.
Certification(s):
Computer / Typing:
- Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
