Summary
The purchasing agent provides procurement support for the Office, Field Personnel and Purchasing Department of a prominent electrical contractor with extensive procurement needs.
Essential Functions

1. Purchases goods and services according to the company’s policies and procedures.
2. Evaluates vendors based on price, reliability, capability, product availability and previous transaction history.
3. Works with vendors to negotiate volume and cash transaction discounts, and other available discounts.
4. Ensures that purchasing documents are complete and accurate and include appropriate and reasonable terms and conditions.
5. Maintains pricing histories and other vendor records.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Electrical knowledge of supplies and materials for a commercial data center and or commercial electrical project. Someone with knowledge or material pricing
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven negotiation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Thorough understanding of purchasing procedures and policies.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Fast-paced, high-intensity work environment. Strong communication skills to collaborate with teammates and understand the details of a task.
- Ability to understand the critical nature of deadlines and find solutions that satisfy project requirements.
- Positive attitude with a focus on creating solid working relationships that foster long term internal efficiency.
Education and Experience:
- Strong Commercial Electrical knowledge of electrical materials.
- At least five years of purchasing or procurement experience.
- Experience as buyer of electrical materials and supply is highly desirable
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
- Systems experience with Vista by Viewpoint a plus
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands
This is largely a deskbound role; however, some filing, walking, and standing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand, as necessary. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit for prolonged periods of time and work on a computer. The employee must sometimes lift and move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a 1-hour unpaid lunch period.
