American Medical Associates sees a full time Primary Care/Internal Medicine/Mental Health Medical Billing Manager who can supervise and coordinate third-party billing and the application of payments for the business office. The successful candidate will process insurance claims and manage AMA’s billing department.
This position requires prior mental health/behavioral health billing experience as well as at least 3 years of medical credentialing/contracting experience.
This position is also eligible for bonus pay up to $20,000 per year.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
- Prepare, review, and transmit timely claims using billing software to various third party payers either electronically or by paper claim processing.
- Process payments as they are paid electronically and/or via paper and credit patient accounts accordingly through EHR.
- Coordinate the insurance billing function of the business office, and see to the proper application of patient, insurance, and other payments.
- Train new employees in the billing department.
- Ensure billing staff employees understand and follow coding procedures, and that all medical chart codes are accurate.
- Identify and bill secondary and tertiary insurances.
- Review patient account balances for possible bad debt or collection monthly.
- Daily check of hospital database for any new Nephrology consults. Add any new Nephrology consults into PMD. Once approved, post new claims in EMR.
- Billing home health charges as necessary.
- Posting monthly dialysis charges.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports on third-party billings, accounts pending diagnoses, and late charges.
- Negotiate insurance contracts with insurance companies.
- Assist with answering telephones and other clerical tasks as needed.
Essential Duties including but not limited to:
- Receive patient calls regarding billing questions and resolve disputes.
- Work cooperatively with other managers and administration to ensure timely billing, reporting, and patient account management.
- Monitor and return any incoming voicemail messages hourly.
- Prepare appeal letters when needed.
- Review and forward patient statements weekly.
- Billing revenue and collections, and resolution of denied/rejected claims.
- Correct and re-bill for reimbursement.
- Keep track of data needed for monthly reporting.
- Serve as a back-up for the Billing Coordinator.
- Maintain attendance and approve time off requests for billing office employees.
- Evaluate performance of billing coordinator(s), conduct quarterly performance evaluations, and provide constructive feedback on their performance to help them meet their professional goal(s).
- Identify and recommend solutions to the billing office staff for office issues or problems.
- Assist in disciplinary action as needed in conjunction with the Human Resources Department and document all disciplinary actions.
- Attend managerial staff meetings and relay pertinent information to the billing office employees timely.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Enforces all policies, procedures, protocols, directives and goals of the organization.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3-5 years of primary care internal medicine billing preferred.
- Prior Mental Health/Behavioral Health billing experience required.
- 3 years of Medical Credentialing/Contracting experience required.
- Previous experience with an electronic medical/health record; experience in E-Clinical Works preferred.
- Knowledge of medical billing procedures and terminology and ability to interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOB’s).
- Working knowledge of different types of insurance plans - commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare.
