Overall Purpose of the Job: The Physician Assistant will provide essential medical services at Eareckson Air Station (EAS), a remote U.S. Air Force installation located on Shemya Island, Alaska. This position involves operating a medical clinic, responding to emergencies, and providing acute and emergency medical care to all visitors. The Physician Assistant must ensure compliance with relevant medical and operational standards, maintaining the highest level of care and readiness.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Medical Services:
- Perform medical services and manage a medical clinic at EAS.
- Ensure 24/7/365 availability of certified medical personnel for emergency response.
- Operate the clinic from 0800 to 1700, Monday through Friday, with staff present during operating hours except when responding to emergencies or during meal breaks.
- Provide acute and emergency medical care to sustain life, limb, or eyesight until evacuation is available.
- Respond to medical emergencies within 30 minutes of notification.
- Provide tele-radiology services and support medical evacuations, coordinating with ASRCC and relevant medical facilities.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Complete and maintain all required medical assessments and records.
- Comply with Federal and State laws, including HIPAA, for patient information and records.
- Forward medical treatment records of active-duty personnel to the appropriate medical group within 30 days of treatment.
- Report medical incidents and medications dispensed, ensuring adherence to applicable DoD, AAAHC, FDA, and State requirements.
- Emergency Support:
- Provide crisis management, including de-escalation and behavioral interventions.
- Coordinate and manage medical evacuations for ASRCC personnel and subcontractors.
- Support mortuary affairs as per the established SOP.
- Staff and Operational Requirements:
- Ensure no gaps in key personnel positions, with the clinic always manned by a licensed Physician Assistant or equivalent.
- Maintain all necessary licensing, certifications, and credentials, making them available for inspection as required.
- Participate in training and maintain dependable attendance and flexibility in the work schedule.
- Logistics and Reporting:
- Manage the procurement, storage, and inventory of medical and laboratory supplies and pharmaceuticals.
- Submit detailed monthly reports on medical and laboratory supplies and pharmaceuticals used, distinguishing between personnel categories for reimbursement purposes.
- Ensure the maintenance and repair of all medical equipment provided.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Licensed Physician Assistant with valid certification from at least one state in the U.S., the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
- Must pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) or Tier 1 investigation equivalent if working over 180 days in a fiscal year.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in a remote or military setting.
- Proficiency in teleradiology and emergency medical care.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
Work Environment:
- Work in person at a 24-hour shelter setting on Shemya Island, Alaska.
- Weekly passengers airlift available for transportation to and from EAS.
- Lodging and meals provided while on-site.
- Work includes standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 20 lbs.

Pay: $105,000.00 - $125,480.00 per year
