**IT'S IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THIS ROLE IS BASED ON DEMAND. There may be weekends you're called off due to lack of turnout or due to there not being late night programming scheduled.
Responsibilities
The overall duty of our security staff is to protect our company's property, employees and our guests. All security personnel represent Rule No. One Hospitality and must adhere to our company’s Standard Operating Procedures.
Shift Preparation
- Must wear your designated uniform (hat, shirt, flashlight, and headset/walkie-talkie)
- Must always arrive to work 100% sober with a clear and level head
- Must arrive on time and ready to work
- Must attend and participate in bi-annual Safer Bar trainings with the rest of the RNO company
- Must attend and participate in mandatory Tavern Safety Trainings with the Madison Police Department
- Must watch recording of or attend our company’s training on how to properly check for valid IDs
- Must undergo a minimum of one hour of onsite training to understand the layouts of each restaurant , including ice machines, soda/water access, and dishwashing locations. This training will also include: how to properly handle glassware, where to put dirty/clean glassware, where the brooms, mops, and wet floor signs are located, how to properly dispose of broken glassware or other waste. All these duties come as back up during any possible downtime. Safety and security always comes first and is the top priority.
During Shift
- Each night your Shift Lead/Lead Bartender will assign you a station to monitor, whether that be at the door of one of the establishments, monitoring open windows at Lucille, overseeing the patio at either establishment, overseeing Lucille’s lounge, etc.
- You can NOT leave your post unless directed by the Shift Lead and/or another member of the security team OR jumping in as emergency back-up elsewhere
- If needing to use the restroom or take a break, you must get approval from your Shift Lead using your headset
- Assist staff with removal of dinner tables into the back hallway
- Assist staff with bussing tables and putting away patio furniture (if your station allows)
- Keep safety always top of mind
- Ensure broken glass is picked up immediately
- Ensure spills are properly cleaned up efficiently
- Ensure all fire exits and stairwells are always clear based on LN set-up
- Monitor patron behavior and level of intoxication
- If you notice someone appearing to be under the influence, keep close eyes on them, communicate with the rest of the security team, and communicate with the lead bartender or MOD if you believe someone should no longer be served alcohol
- Remove obnoxious/offensive persons who are being disruptive and negatively impacting other guests’ experiences
- Properly check ID’s outside the front door and do not allow entry to guests below the age of 21
- Manage and monitor metal detector checkpoint before allowing entry to any guest
- Always work to de-escalate situations by remaining calm, cool, and collected
- Must always be professional and RESPECTFUL when asking patrons to leave
- Report any possible dangers to your security team/Shift Lead to call in police back-up as needed
- If any situation escalates past security’s abilities, you must call the police immediately for assistance
- Always allow any member of the Madison Police Department and/or the Madison Fire Department immediate access to the building
- Never use physical force on any guests or staff unless acting in self-defense
- Always respect both guests and staff members of the establishment, especially in maintaining professional communication. Must never make any staff member feel uncomfortable in any way.
Ending Shift
- Have heightened awareness near closing time and de-escalate any possible altercations as guests leave the premise
- Assist staff with clean up, breakdown, and any furniture adjustments post late night service
- Assist staff with trash runs at the end of the night
- Security is responsible for bringing dinner tables back into the dining room at the end of the night
- Perform all closing duties delegated to you by the Shift Lead/Lead Bartenders
- Do not collect your cash until all delegated tasks are complete!
- Follow all RNO policies and procedures
- This means paying for any alcohol you consume beyond your shift drink, and leaving the building after your job has been finished
Professionalism, Demeanor, and Qualities
- Formal civilian-related security training is favored
- Experience as a bouncer or similar is preferred
- Refined crowd management and problem-solving abilities
- Unrivaled observational and conflict management skills
- Capacity to be stern as required, but ALWAYS respectful
- Excellent verbal communication abilities
- Physically agile with quick reflexes
REPORTING
The role will report to the RNO Director of Operations, as well as the Asst/General Managers, MODs, and Lead Bartenders of Merchant.
