Senior Functional Safety Engineer

Annual Salary Range: $160,000.00 to $190,000.00

Position Summary:
The Senior Functional Safety Engineer will possess extensive technical knowledge and proficiency in safety systems engineering and specifications development. They must be able to work with a high level of professionalism within a collaborative team environment.
Requirements:
Minimum 10 years of experience in Safety Systems Engineering and Applications Consulting
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
Functional Safety Certification required (TÜV FSE, exida CFSP, or ISA84 SIS Fundamentals | Preferred Certifications - exida CFSE or ISA84 SIS Expert or TÜV Rheinland FSExpert)
PMP Preferred
Core Competencies:
- Technical Competencies – Strong expertise in all aspects of safety lifecycle management, including the development of PHA/LOPAs, hazard identification, safeguard allocation, Independent Protection Layers (IPLs) allocation, Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS), development of logic narratives, and SIL Calculations. Additionally, experience in developing test and validation procedures is required. Knowledge of PLC/SIS programming and panel design, as well as integration of PLC/SIS to DCS and other auxiliary PLCs. Ability to lead efforts in commissioning/cutovers, loop checks, logic validation/testing, and provide start-up assistance and troubleshooting. Proficiency in generating SRS documents using at least one of the following Safety Lifecycle Management software packages: exSILentia V3/V4, SILSolver, aeShield, or Safety Lifecycle Manager (SLM).
- Safety – Responsible for maintaining compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Client Contact – Ensuring regular communication with clients and addressing their concerns and input. Ability to collaborate with clients, engineers, and operators to define project needs and design requirements.
- Morale & Teamwork – Consistently maintains a high standard of professionalism within a team environment. Ability to lead project team members and motivate them to achieve project goals.
- Training – Ensuring all necessary trainings and certifications are up to date and valid. Providing recommendations for training and staff development for the Sugar Land team.
- Quality – Ensuring effective compliance with company and Client QA/QC processes.
Other Skills/Qualifications:
- Experience with IPL Assessments, SIL Calculations, Safety Requirement Specs, and Safety Lifecycle Management Software is required
- Experience with SLIM Process writing is required
- Experience with SIS/PLC Platforms, including Emerson Delta V (CSLS and SLS), Triconex, and/or Yokogawa Prosafe, is preferred
