Group Controller is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of the financial statements for the Stores they are responsible for (typically 4-6 stores).
The Group Controller will also be responsible to train teams, establish procedures, and execute processes that support the Group's overall accounting operations.
Operations include License and Title, payroll, procurement, cash management, inventory management, and AR/AP processes.
Accounting:
Ensure delivery of accurate and timely financial statements. Create reporting and accounting processes which enable store managers to identify operational changes easily and quickly. Work closely with store leaders to adjust operational processes as required to minimize risk and/or realize profit potential.
- Review, audit, and submit of manufacturer financial statements in coordination with Group Chief Accounting Officer and Store Ownership
- Ensure accruals, payables, and receivables are reviewed and properly maintained in a way that minimizes risk and write offs.
- Work with payroll to ensure accuracy of paid wage and compliance with State, Federal and Company requirements, and integration with DMS
- Manage accuracy, productivity, and personnel associated with the day-to-day activities of accounts payable, accounts receivable, daily cash management, and floorplan accounts, general ledger maintenance and reconciliation, billing, and license and title.
Operations:
Create, adjust, and execute accounting best practices across all operations.
- Establish processes that ensure compliance with manufacturer programs (rebates, incentives, co-op), and the timely receipt of manufacturer incentive payments.
- Ensure DMS data is accurate and set up for all departments
- Make recommendations to improve office operation efficiency
- Implement changes in accounting policies and procedures as requested.
- Control all documents, both electronic and paper storage and record retention requirements
- Maintain working relationships with department managers
Manage Accounting Staff:
Lead teams that deliver excellent results for our operations and our stores
- Lead office staff to ensure assignments are completed and all deadlines are met
- Recruit and onboard new accounting team members to ensure successful first year
- Mentor and develop junction accounting team to grow into leadership roles in the Group
- Provide ongoing employee training on compliance related topics, policies and procedures
Automotive Group Controller Required Skills:
- 5 years of Automotive Accounting Experience
- 5 years of Managing an Accounting team
- Problem solving mindset
- Ability to understand and interpret financial statements
- Exceptional communication skills
Automotive Group Controller Experience Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- Controller experience over multiple franchise automotive dealerships
