Job description
The Accounting and Grants Manager will perform various accounting and grant management tasks. This position requires the ability to be responsible for performing financial duties on a professional level and works closely with the Accounting team to support the needs of the organization. The accounting manager is also responsible for finalizing the financial close process, grants claiming (specifically for public health) balance sheet analysis, and annual audit coordination as appropriate. S/he supports and supervises payroll and supports the auditor and CPA to ensure a well coordinated financial closing. S/he is directly responsible for the claiming, coordination and management of two programmatic areas – Housing, Clinical services and Public Health Grant Services.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s or Master's degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
● A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
● Experience in non-profit finance, including accounting/costing and pricing is highly desirable.
● Experience with non-profit audits, 990 requirements and working with external auditors and tax preparers.
● Proven expertise in financial planning and analysis (FP&A), financial modeling, and financial management.
● Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting processes.
● Strong analytical, problem-solving skills. Self-motivated and detail oriented.
● Spoken and written fluency in English.
Managerial Responsibilities:
● Manage one Staff Accountant who initiates financial transactions such as bills, invoices, payroll, compliance forms, etc. .
Financial Oversight & Collaboration
● Oversee Staff Accountant and the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, ensuring deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines.
● Oversee day-to-day financial functions; closely monitor and manage external resources.
● Assist in analyzing financial performance metrics, trends, and variances, and provide actionable insights and recommendations to drive informed decision-making.
● Collaborate cross-functionally with departments to support business initiatives and drive financial performance.
● Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and transparency.
● Collaborate closely with the internal team to streamline processes, implement best practices, and drive efficiencies.
● Maintain clean data in the finance system – QBO, including user management, AP and AR approval process, GL post etc.
Compliance & Reporting
● Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and performance analysis (cash flow forecast, accounts reconciliation, revenue recognition, budget vs. actuals analysis, etc.).
● Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal controls, and oversee the audit process.
● Collaborate with external auditors and tax advisors to facilitate audits and filings. Assist in the annual audit, 1099 and 990 process.
● Maintain state-level registrations.
● Assist with commercial insurance, worker’s comp and benefit plan audits, renewals, compliance and reporting.
Process Improvement & Optimization
● Evaluate and optimize financial systems, processes, and controls to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

● Assist in strategic leadership and direction for the finance function, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. The financial full cycle operations overseen include accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, balance sheet reconciliation and regulatory compliance.
● Co-develop and implement financial strategies to support business objectives, drive profitability, and maximize growth.
● Co-lead the annual budgeting and long-term financial planning processes, working closely with senior leadership and department leads to align financial goals with business priorities.
● Assess and communicate financial risks and opportunities, contributing to the development of growth strategies.
● Contribute to business initiatives, investment opportunities, and cost-saving strategies to optimize profitability.
