Position Summary:
Perform functions to review and analyze structural drawings, calculations, and specifications to ensure compliance with building codes, standards, laws and regulations, making decisions based on conclusions for which there is little precedent.
Essential Functions:
- Review and analyze structural drawings, calculations, and specifications for compliance with EPCOT Building Code and Florida laws.
- Interact with contractors, designers, property owners and the public regarding design and permit issues.
- Interpret legal requirements related to structural matters. Work with designers, contractors and owners to develop compliance solutions.
- Investigate structural failures caused by design / construction deficiencies, or natural forces.
- Prepare reports and evaluate material testing reports for Manager -Building & Safety.
- Investigate unusual structural problems. Interpret code and ordinance requirements regarding structural matters. Assist with other inspections as required.
- Conduct surveys of buildings to detect code violations or hazardous conditions.
- Obtain evidence and create reports following structural violations, which have not been corrected.
- Assist in the development and modification of structural design and construction requirements for building codes.
- Perform annual emergency power tests as required.
Other Duties:
- Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements.
- Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Competency:
- Knowledge of principles and practices of civil and architectural engineering as applied to the alteration and construction of buildings and structures.
- Knowledge of codes and legal requirements related to structural matters.
- Knowledge of modern engineering building methods.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Structural Engineering or closely related discipline.
- Must be a professional Structural Engineer – licensed by the State of Florida.
- Standard Building Plans Examiner License preferred.
- Standard Building Inspector License preferred.
- Five to seven years of experience as a Structural Engineer or related Engineering position.
- Regular, dependable attendance required.

Must possess a valid Florida State Driver's license and maintain eligibility under the District's commercial vehicle program.

Employee will operate motor vehicle(s) that involve the use of hand/foot controls.
