The Human Resource Manager oversees all activities related to the organization’s HR needs for nearly 160 staff across four offices in Southern California. Responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of the organization’s human resource’s function, which includes employee legal and programmatic compliance, training, performance management, policy development and creation of a positive and team-oriented organizational culture.
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience in human resource management in a mission-driven organization. The candidate will also have knowledge in Legal or Social Justice, nion experience and knowledge of leaves of absences.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Ensures employees are treated fairly, with dignity, and respect and their rights are protected at all times.
- Provides support to all functional areas of HR, including benefits, compensation, staffing, payroll, training and HRIS activities. Answers routine questions and calls and refers more complex issues to appropriate individual/partners.
- Handles all leave of absences, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, PFL and company’s paid parental leave requests according to state, federal laws, and company policy.
- Create a compensation strategy for all employees based on market research and pay surveys; keep the strategy up to date.
- Develop, recommend, and implement personnel policies and procedures and ensure they are consistently applied throughout the organization.
- Ensure compliance with all Local, State, and Federal employment laws.
- Act as a resource for employees with work-related concerns, provide solution-orientated suggestions and facilitate resolution of issues.
- Oversee progressive discipline including employment termination and participate in disciplinary meetings.
- Ensure employee grievance process is fair and effective and that all complaints are equitably addressed in a timely manner.
- Partner with management to ensure strategic HR goals are aligned with business initiatives.
- Design and implement employee retention strategies.
- Advise managers on organizational policy matters such as equal employment opportunity, disciplinary issues, and sexual and other unlawful harassment, and recommend needed changes.
- Oversee the fair, thorough and timely investigation of internal and external personnel-related complaints.
- Create and implement employee relations policies, practices, and procedures necessary to establish a positive organizational culture and supervisor-employee relationships and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation.
- Maintain staff and client confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance.
- Reports the following in accordance with established facility procedures and regulatory standards: accidents and incidents; personnel grievances, complaints, concerns, and suspected incidences of non-compliance including but not limited to hazardous work conditions and equipment.
- Adheres to state regulations and company policies and procedures.
- Works with company identified consultants as necessary and implements recommendations as required.
- Interprets department policies and procedures to personnel as necessary.
- Performs other related duties as required.
What You Will Bring:
- A bachelor's degree and five years of human resources or talent development experience
- Three years of management experience.
- Knowledge of and experience with California employment laws, compensation, benefits administration, employee relations, and recruitment.
- Experience creating and implementing organization-wide policies and systems.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, the ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects, meet deadlines, analyze issues, think creatively, problem-solve and multi-task.
- Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and coaching skills including patience and the ability to work well with employees at all levels.
- Ability to maintain neutrality and create a safe environment for employees to raise concerns.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to teamwork and creating a culture that is supportive of employees.
- Excellent computer skills required – Word, Excel, Software applications.
- Experience working with diverse groups and populations.
- Ability to represent Company in an ethical and professional manner, and to maintain accountability.
- Ability to interact tactfully, effectively, and professionally with other employees, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public, as needed.
- Ability to understand and follow applicable regulations, policies and procedures fully and consistently.
- Willingness and ability to function as an effective team member through good communication and cooperation to meet departmental goals.
