Position Summary: RN Director/ Instructor
The Registered Nurse instructor/ Director of Nursing is a nursing on-site teaching facility position and resource personnel position with The Los Angeles Education Corps YouthBuild program. Responsibilities under this job description include various tasks that include the development of interpersonal skills between the teacher and the learner and requirements in the study of the field of nursing. These tasks include nurse theory, lab assignments and clinical performance skill tasks. The prospective teacher will accompany all of the traits therein and meet the Los Angeles Education Corps YouthBuild program rules and regulations of its accrediting bodies, and the most current industry standards.
Essential Functions Statement(s):
- Provide orientation for students that are in training to become certified nursing assistants with The Los Angeles Education Corps (LAEC) CNA program including the clinical site healthcare facility. Include the facility’s job description for Nursing staff, the Policy and Procedure Manual, location of educational resources, safety precautions, emergency protocols and blood-borne pathogens protection.
- Assign lab protocol and skill performance tasks with successful completion so that students gain experience in a hands-on approach.
- Promote a positive learning environment with emphasis on patient/student safety and compliance that meets California Department of Public Health standards.
- Exhibit professional behavior and communication that serves as a positive role model for students.
- Complete weekly clinical evaluations with systematic observations, and timely objective/subjective feedback to the student according to LAEC Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program (NATP) and skilled nursing facility standards.
- Meet regularly with LAEC Education Director and Director of Career Technical Education and maintain productive two-way communication between the Program and partnering skilled nursing facility Director Of Nursing (DON).
- Provide feedback to the Director of Career and Technical Education about current department/SNF policies or changes in practice in the nursing field, and recommend appropriate program changes.
- Maintain current state-of-the-art knowledge and skills through continuing education and professional development opportunities.
- Perform supervisory and other duties as assigned by the Career and Technical Education Director or other Administrative designee.

Position Qualifications:
- Three years of full-time work experience (3,000 hours) in the health Science Medical Technology Industry Sector listed under the Designated Subjects credential, or 24 to 48 semester units in field with 1 to 2 years of full-time work experience, required to obtain the credential. One year of experience must have been within the past three years. Experience may be full or part-time, paid or volunteer. Must posses or be willing to obtain a Designated Subjects Career Technical Education teaching credential.

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Licensed Registered Nurse state of California; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience:
- Two year full-time work experience as a Registered Nurse preferably with Director of Staff Development (DSD) or one year verifiable experience as a licensed nurse providing care and services to chronically ill or elderly patients in an acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, hospice care, or other long - term care setting.
- Prior experience and best practice knowledge that includes patient care, sterile techniques and procedures, first aid/emergency protocols, medication dispensary, in a hospital or related medical facility(s) environment(s).
Additional alternative:
Completion of a course in teaching adults (attach certificate of completion) or 1 year of verifiable experience in teaching adults or 1 year of verifiable experience supervising nurse aides.
Computer Skills:
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, database management systems and the ability to learn new software packages relative to the instructional field. Fully functional with online communication tools (instant messaging, live chat, forums, emails). Ability to conduct internet research and enter data in related software tools.
Certificates & Licenses:
Current Registered Nurse licensure required. Upon hire will obtain post-secondary teaching credentials.

Work Environment
School and training center work environment that contains equipment typical of the facility’s business operations. Moderate to high noise levels typical to the facility’s operations. Lighting and temperature are adequate. Some temperatures may vary with types of medical treatment procedures.
Job requires moderate to long periods of standing. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Possible exposure to medical equipment injuries, human tissue and body fluids while conducting clinical routes when training students.
