Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County, Florida. The Engineering Division manages the Capital Improvement Program for water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and solid waste projects. The division also reviews the plans and agreements of proposed infrastructure by the development community to conform to the Orange County Utilities Standards and Construction Specifications Manual.
The Engineering Division is seeking highly qualified individuals to fill multiple positions of “Engineer I/ II/ III”. These positions are responsible for reviewing developer submitted Utilities projects related to water and reclaimed water distribution systems, as well as wastewater collection and transmission systems.
Job Description
General Functions
Engineer I: Performs routine engineering assignments. This is an entry-level classification performing professional engineering work. Work is performed with some independence under the limited supervision of the designated supervisor.
Engineer II: Performs advanced engineering work. Provides supervision over one or more major engineering activities. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the designated supervisor.
Engineer III: Performs advanced engineering work. Provides supervision over one or more major engineering activities. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the designated supervisor. Provides quality assurance oversight and support for Engineer I / II.
Representative Duties/Assignments
Performs detailed reviews of various types of construction plans, including, residential subdivisions, commercial plans, and E-Projects, submitted by developers, for compliance with OCU engineering and operational standards and state regulatory requirements.
Performs detailed reviews of hydraulic calculations, hydraulic reports, and Master Utility Plans for technical accuracy and compliance with OCU standards.
Analyzes construction plans for water and wastewater demands and connection requirements in order to assess corresponding OCU fees.
Performs plan reviews, research and other tasks related to Development Review Committee meetings.
Research and processes project plans and supporting documents using a variety of software programs, including GIS, Microsoft Office Suite, and Orange County permitting and tracking software.
Interacts with developers, property owners and engineers to explain OCU processes and requirements, and to provide support and analysis.
Reviews, understands, and applies development-related County and State Codes, planning documents, Board of County Commission and Development Reviews Committee minutes, utility master plans, and development-related agreements.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Engineer I - Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Engineer II - Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and one (1) year of utilities engineering related experience.
Engineer III - Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and four (4) years of utilities engineering related experience.
Must possess and maintain a Professional Engineer license from the Florida State Board of Professional Engineers or be able to obtain it within (6) six months from date of hire.
Preferences
Excellent written, verbal communication and organizational skills.
Wastewater collection and transmission system design and hydraulic modeling experience
Water and reclaimed water distribution system design and hydraulic modeling experience
