JOB CLASSIFICATION: Registered Nurse
REPORTS TO: Project Supervisor
SUMMARY: This is advanced professional work in the area of providing intensive, structured, active, clinical treatment with the goal(s) of acute symptom remission, hospital avoidance, and/or reduction of inpatient length of stay.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participates in the screening process to evaluate the appropriateness of the consumer’s participation in the program.
2. Provides coping skills training that corresponds to presenting problems e.g. stress management, symptom management, assertiveness training, and problem solving.
3. Provides medication administration under the supervision of the staff psychiatrist.
4. Provides medication monitoring, medication evaluation, and medication management.
5. Provides consumer and family education, i.e. diagnosis, symptoms, medication, coping skills, etc.
6. Completes paperwork in a timely manner.
7. Consults with referral sources, case managers, and significant others.
8. Ensures continuity of care.
9. Ongoing in-service training: Infection Control
10. Responsible for injection program.
11. Responsible for the storage and protection of consumer and employee records.
12. Participates in after-hours, on-call rotation.
13. Nurses will maintain MAS certification and perform duties as outlined by the NDP guidelines and CCMHB policies and procedures.
14. Performs other duties as required.
15. Will work in assigned departments/programs as assigned by the Chief Clinical Officer. The duties assigned may require all shifts and Facilities.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of the fundamental types of emotional and behavioral disturbances and therapeutic intervention techniques.
Possess a high degree of organizational skills and flexibility.
Ability to effectively apply therapeutic techniques and complete required paperwork.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective and professional relationship with staff, consumers, and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively with the family of consumers and officials of other organizations.
Knowledge regarding the diagnosis of mental illness and corresponding medications.
Ability to work effectively with the medical community.
Must demonstrate the ability to work well with staff and clients in a polite, respectful and dignified manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Alabama
2. Minimum of two years of psychiatric experience
