Pacific Historic Parks (PHP) is a non-profit 501(C)3 organization that is a cooperating association with the National Park Service in Pearl Harbor National Memorial and Kalaupapa National Historical Park, Hawaii, American Memorial Park, Saipan-CNMI, and War in the Pacific National Historical Park, Guam. Our mission is to support Pacific historic World War II locations through education & interpretive programs, research, preservation, and restoration to perpetuate the memory of events and honor the people involved in these sites.
Job purpose
The Retail Sales Associate provide excellent customer service to all guests and assists the bookstore Supervisor with daily operations.
Duties and responsibilities
- Greet visitors as they enter the store in a welcoming manner.
- Accurately process guest purchases by scanning the merchandise to the Point of Sale (POS) System or by hand entering Universal Price Codes (UPC) or prices into the system.
- Ensure merchandise is stocked and displayed in a manner to maximize sales.
- Open and close store as scheduled and maintain a balanced cash drawer.
- Clean fixtures and workspace weekly or as needed.
- Occasionally assist with inventory and other special events that may be held outside of traditional worksites and hours.
- Encourage guest s to make donations to the park.
- Suggest products to guests.
- Operational Knowledge of the National Park Service and Visitor Center.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of retail, cashier, or customer service experience.
- High School Diploma or GED Required, some college preferred.
- Ability to work in a professional manner with diverse guests, including non-English speakers.
Working Conditions
- The bookstore is an indoor environment with air conditioning. Offsite and outdoor events/sales sometimes required.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged standing.
- Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to continuously move large and bulky wheeled displays.
- Ability to reach, stoop, bend, and lift to clean and restock supplies.
- Bookstore will require manual dexterity to place items in bags, stack, fold, and sort items, as well as operate a POS system and key UPC codes into the register. These motions can be repetitive.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgements and decisions.
