Summary/Objective
Shaw Systems is a national software development company that has an established record of solid financial performance and an excellent reputation for providing quality products. We are seeking a motivated individual to work as a Software Engineer on our Java Development team, with our credit-based financial software products that run on multiple platforms. This position will be part of a team of developers responsible for updating, maintaining, and supporting multiple Shaw Systems software products. Experience in the banking or the auto finance industry is plus!
Responsibilities
Shaw Systems has many exciting development projects for both new and existing products that would allow you to make real contributions to a highly fast paced team. Shaw Systems develops application and system software for a wide variety of environments including client/server applications, browser-based applications and embedded systems.
- Define development standards and technology roadmaps.
- Evaluate new technologies and trends.
- Evaluate product feature requests.
- Work alongside other architects and developers in a high-performance, results driven team.
- Review specifications, provide technical designs, and code & test projects.
- Execute full lifecycle software development.
- Contribute as part of a team of developers to build and enhance Shaw software applications.
- Add new functionality, bug fixes, and refactor the existing application.
- Develop in a fast paced, agile environment.
- Write testable, efficient code, document code changes and design and implement new functionality.
- Prepare and deliver deployments
- Comply with company coding standards
- Provide 24/7 support on a rotating schedule
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- In-depth understanding using Object Oriented Programing languages, design patterns, data structures.
- 5+ years’ experience in design, development, and unit testing of API/web service (SOAP/REST) integrations, preferably using automation tools.
- At least 5 years’ experience in Agile practice and deep understanding of Agile SDLC.
- 3+ years’ experience in architecting, developing, and implementing microservices and microservices frameworks.
- Proven expertise building and designing APIs and have a known playbook of frameworks.
- Experience using API automation testing tools.
- Working knowledge of Relational Databases preferably SQL server
- At least 4 years’ experience developing and consuming Web Services
- At least 4 years’ experience with ORM technologies (Entity Framework)
- 4+ experience with source code management tools (TFS)
- 6+ years of proven work experience in software engineering
- Excellent skills in critical thinking and analysis, communication, both verbal and written and interpersonal interactions. Can articulate technology and explain complex topics to senior leadership
- Hands-on experience in developing enterprise applications
Education / Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and/or related field (MIS, CIS)
Location
This position may work from any of the following locations: Hybrid office schedule if within 75 miles of the Houston, TX or Richmond, VA office. Remote with the ability to travel at least 5% from the following states: Texas if more than 75 miles from the office location, Virginia if more than 75 miles from the office location, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Utah.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This is a full-time position. Days of work are Monday through Friday. The daily schedule may vary from 7 am – 4 pm, 8 am – 5 pm or 9 am – 6 pm, and occasional afterhours or weekend work may be required. Hours may vary or exceed 40 in any given week depending on the needs of the business.
Travel
This position is not expected to have any travel requirements.
