Summary/Objective:
The ADON performs professional supervisory practice in the care of the geriatric resident requiring physical, emotional, and sub-acute care. The role is hands-on, administrative and clerical in nature. Work involves the responsibility for supervising the provision of quality nursing care given at the facility. The position is responsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of the nursing practice, coordinating the nursing and education programs, for recognizing and assisting in solving professional, and administrative and supervisory problems specifically in infection control and prevention. The position exercises considerable judgement in applying professional knowledge in solving nursing problems within the established policies and practices.
Essential Functions:
1. Works with Director of Nursing (DON) to determine the allocation of staff and accepts on-call duties
2. Coordinates the care of the residents
3. Is aware of the day-to-day issues and concerns in the department and with the residents
4. Notifies the DON and/or Administrator of urgent concerns. Keeps DON informed of the needs and problems on the unit.
5. Can receive employee, resident and family concerns and grievances. Refers information to the DON
6. Assists in investigating and completing risk assessments and infections
7. Assists in survey compliance, quality assurance and process improvement as assigned. Notifies the DON of identified learning and education needs
8. Supervises staff and assures survey compliance daily. Provides guidance, instruction, and support to the staff to improve or assure adequate, timely, competent and compliant care and work flow
10. Responds to all CODES, PARTICIPATES IN FIRE DRILLS and assists in disaster planning and evacuation education
11 Assists in providing clinical expertise in medical management and behaviour management techniques
12. Audits charts routinely providing clinical expertise in documentation, acute illness charting, weekly/monthly summaries, and care planning
13. Meets routinely with the DON - assists with the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures
14. Serves and/or leads committees as assigned but not limited to, Nursing QA/PI, infection control & prevention and education
15. Has the overall supervisory responsibility of RN, LPN, and CNAs as directed by the DON
Physical Demands:
1. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may come into contact with people with communicable diseases
2. The position can be very active and requires standing, bending, kneeling and stooping
Education/Experience:
1. LPN or RN with current state licensure (BSN preferred)
2. Supervisory experience in team leader role/educator in LTC
3. CPR certified
4. Infection Control and prevention experience
