As a Nursing Assistant, duties will vary by patient care unit/department and include but are not limited to:
Providing personal hygiene care
Assisting with nutritional needs
Providing comfort care
Appropriately and safely transferring patients
Taking vital signs and completing recordkeeping
Recognizing and promptly reporting changes in patient condition to the RN
Maintaining a safe, clean environment for patients to promote the healing process

Our Nursing Assistant - Student position is part of an education to employment opportunity. Prior to beginning as a Certified Nursing Assistant, (CNA) role the Nursing Assistant - Student must complete the Nursing Assistant Training Program provided by the College of St. Scholastica. The program cost will be covered by Essentia Health. After completion of the Nursing Assistant Training Program provided by the College of St. Scholastica the student will be required to apply for open Nursing Assistant positions.
Program Outline:
Program we have partnered with the College of Saint Scholastica to help put candidates through the Nursing Assistant program.
If selected into the role, Essentia will pay for the 1200 Nursing Assistant course, with a 1-year commitment to Essentia working in a Nursing Assistant role (Minimum of a 0.2 FTE or 2 shifts per pay period for that one year).
You start out as a casual employee (You can work as much you wish while taking the course, this is designed to be flexible for our nursing students). Once you finish the course, we are able to transfer you into a regular Nursing Assistant role, and then you are moved into the minimum of a 0.2 FTE position that your current manager has open within the unit.
The NA course through Scholastica is hybrid course. First, you will complete 43 hours online and then you go on campus for lab sessions for 4 full days. This course must be completed within 4 months of date of hire.
