JOB DESCRIPTION: SPECIAL EDUCATION COMPLIANCE MANAGER (Full-time, In-person position)
ABOUT THE POSTION:
Northwest School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children (NWSDHH) seeks a Special Education Compliance Manager to provide leadership, professional development, and compliance management for our preschool through 8th grade deaf/hard-of-hearing program and staff. This individual serves as a Special Education compliance expert in areas including special education law, Individualized Education Programs (IEP), Re-evaluations, Extended School Year (ESY), Child Outcome Survey Form (COSF), WaKids, and Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA).
This position is full-time, in-person. This role is based on our Shoreline (Seattle area) campus and this individual reports to Head of School.
The Special Education Compliance Manager works in a collaborative manner to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines pertaining to special education by assisting with the coordination and monitoring of evaluation timelines, caseload team meetings, and completion and compliance of IEP documentation. The Special Education Compliance Manager supports, trains, and monitors staff timelines for IEPs and Reevaluations.
Additionally, coordinates with the Director of Educational Programming on our ESY program for students who have been qualified through the Special Education qualification process by their teacher. During state testing, this individual coordinates, schedules, and trains staff on SBA testing.
The Special Education Compliance Manager must be a strong team player who communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, staff, and partners of the school. They must be committed to the School’s anti-racism, equity, and inclusion work and continued learning.
ABOUT OUR SCHOOL:
Located in Shoreline, Washington (immediately north of Seattle), NWSDHH’s school community is a fantastic place to work for those seeking a caring, supportive workplace that is dedicated to best practices in Deaf Education. NWSDHH is a day school that serves children who are deaf or hard of hearing (D/HH), from preschool to eighth grade, who live within a two-hour radius of our campus.
Students are taught on-site by a Teacher of the Deaf (TOD), and students may be mainstreamed in their neighborhood school from Kindergarten and up as directed by their IEP. Students are supported in becoming self-confident, articulate, academically-competitive learners and engaged community members who demonstrate that being D/HH is a difference, not a disability. Students wear amplification, are provided with DM/FM systems, and use simultaneous speech and S.E.E. to develop age-appropriate English and literacy. Class sizes are small, typically with 5 - 8 students in a homeroom grouping, served by a TOD and a S.E.E. Interpreter/Paraeducator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (IEP/Reevaluation Documentation)
- Provides leadership, planning, and technical expertise to staff
- Trains and supports Teachers; ensuring effective progress monitoring from initiation to completion of the IEP writing process
- Conducts new teacher onboarding for IEP writing
- Monitors IEPs for compliance and consistency
- Collaborates with District Partners to ensure compliance needs are met for each district’s requirements
- Supports multidisciplinary teams in implementing effective, collaborative meeting practices for Special Education evaluations and/or IEP meetings
- Develops, organizes, and implements professional development opportunities
- Responds to a variety of requests or concerns from district partners and collaborates in IEP team meetings and with administrators to develop a plan of action
- Participates in various administrator meetings, acts as primary IEP/Reevaluation Representative, and attends staff meetings as appropriate
- Brings extensive knowledge of modern principles and best practices of special education programs for students, including the implications of communication needs and least restrictive environment for Deaf/Harding of Hearing students
- Orients and trains Teachers of the Deaf to procedures and process for IEPs and Revaluations
- Has a working knowledge of technology and be able to use it in development, presentation, and delivery of training, including online IEP programs/software
- Attends Puget Sound Educational Service District meetings and PD opportunities applicable to Special Education compliance
- Completes other related assignments as designated by the Director of Educational Programming or Head of School
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (ESY)
- Supports teachers with ESY IEP timeline and data collection for qualifying students
- Provides necessary documents to families and districts leading up to ESY program
- Serves as primary point of contact for districts in regards to ESY programming
- Collects and organizes qualifying data
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (SBA)
- Monitors, responds to, and tracks district communication
- Attends SBA update meetings and trainings
- Provides training to test monitors
- Compiles test accommodations for proctors and provides training on administering
- Completes compliance SBA paperwork for the School

The individual in this position works with a wide range of staff, administrators, and district partners on both routine and diverse, emergent scenarios. The individual must possess and employ a variety of personal and interpersonal skills in the implementation of the position’s responsibilities. This position requires a positive, solution-oriented outlook when dealing with staff and NWSDHH constituents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Special Education certification and a minimum of three years teaching in a special education setting
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Exceptional project management and data analysis skills
- A strong understanding of Federal and Washington State special education rules, regulations, and practices
- Broad knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and methodology of special education
- A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group
- Detail oriented, coupled with the ability to exercise good judgment
- Proactive nature; able to anticipate conflicts before they arise
- Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively
- Ability to execute meetings, calls and emails with professionalism, courtesy and accuracy
- Personal qualities of maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and diligence
- Ability to effectively allocate and prioritize time to several tasks to ensure completion of all
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience as a compliance manager preferred. Will consider experience as related service provider if knowledge of special education processes and paperwork are present.

SALARY & BENEFITS
