Job Overview:
As the primary clinical faculty, coordinate with the clinical facilities, faculty members, registrar, the DON, conduct initial and yearly clinical site viability evaluation, maintaining and ensuring proper documentation as required by the clinical sites, and coordinate with students about clinical/sim and lab schedules.
- Teach primarily in the clinical settings; incorporate evidence-based practice into teaching activities and maintain a commitment to serving UHS and nursing students.
- Facilitate all clinical activities to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Responsible for monitoring, supervising students, and maintaining clinical documentation.
Clinical faculty responsibilities:
1. Attending faculty meetings and participating in school-related activities.
2. Always maintain professionalism in self-conduct and when dealing with students.
3. Complete designated clinical objectives and topics on time as indicated in the course syllabi.
4. Starting and ending clinical at the designated time and making up missed course contents due to absences, tardiness, and/or under time through equivalent activities, in agreement with the concerned students as approved by the Director of Nursing.
5. Communicate with the Director of Nursing, the student activities and/or faculty reliever in the event of unexpected absences or occurrences.
6. Review and revise clinical course syllabi. Email to the Director of Nursing (DON) a copy of the syllabus prior to the start of clinical and upload in Populi for the DON to review syllabus before the start of classes or clinical.
7. Keep track of students’ clinical documents. Monitor the timing in and out of students in the attendance roster to meet institution, VBON, SCHEV and ABHES standards and review all documents with Director of Nursing each student attendance sheets to ensure students meet the required clinical hours as scheduled for the course.
8. Grading of clinical/simulation/lab assignments, and other requirements: All end of course final grades must be posted by latest midnight prior to the next course start date. (Which always is the next class date). I am expected to submit as well as follow up with every faculty for submission of all courses- clinical/lab/sim required paperwork within5 days after the clinical, lab/ sim rotation. Care plans are to be reviewed with students and graded paperwork to be returned to students.
9. Conducting academic counselling: Indicate time availability for academic counselling for at least 2 hours a week in the course syllabus and be available to students according to the indicated time.
10. Preparing for Day’s Lessons: Prepare for the day’s clinical lessons and materials such as case studies, scenarios, PowerPoint presentations/ handouts, and to comply with the academic activities indicated in the course syllabus.
11. Completing entries in Populi. Communicate in Populi daily clinical attendances at the time of class and academic counselling notes from the day of incident and conduct. Prepare and upload clinical objectives prior to use in the sim lab and at the clinical sites to give students ample time to review the materials.
12. Revising Clinical Course Syllabus: Submit a soft copy to the Director of Education a proposed revision to the clinical course syllabus (if any).
13. Arranging for Clinical Course Evaluation and Instructor’s Evaluation. Coordinate with other faculty and DON the appropriate schedule for conducting a course end evaluation by the students.
14. End of course. A course is ended on the date as specified in the course outline; at which time the following must have been fulfilled:
14.1 Populi entries to include all clinical/sim/lab grades, attendance, academic counselling notes.
14.2 Revised clinical course syllabus (if required) had been forwarded to the Director of Education
14.3 Has submitted copies of ALL required clinical documents (from you & other clinical instructors) to the registrar and Director of Education
14.4 Clinical grades had been finalized, submitted, and made visible to students in Populi (course grades should be visible to students within 12 hours from the last class or clinical day, or prior to the succeeding course)
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must submit background check, documentation of vaccinations and titers, and required trainings.
· 2 years direct client care experience as a RN •
· Evidence of education/experience in the specialty area
· Professional competence/annual professional development
Knowledge, Education, and Experience:
· Current RN License
· BSN, MSN degree
· Currently hold or and maintain BLS certification
Skills and Abilities:
· Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, written, verbal)
· Strong diligence
· Excellent time management skills
· Computer skills required
