Job Description:
Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for diagnosing, preventing, and treating problems with teeth or mouth tissue. Is also responsible for removing decay, fill cavities, examine x rays, place protective plastic sealants on children's teeth, straighten teeth, and repair fractured teeth by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Administers anesthetics to limit the amount of pain experienced by patients during procedures.
· Advises or instructs patients regarding preventive dental care, the causes and treatment of dental problems, or oral health care services.
· Designs, makes, or fits prosthodontic appliances, such as space maintainers, bridges, or dentures, or write fabrication instructions or prescriptions for denturists or dental technicians.
· Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, or malformations of teeth, gums, or related oral structures and provide preventive or corrective services.
· Examines teeth, gums, and related tissues, using dental instruments, x-rays, or other diagnostic equipment, to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities, and plan appropriate treatments.
· Formulates plan of treatment for patient's teeth and mouth tissue.
· Uses air turbine and hand instruments, dental appliances and surgical implements.
· Uses masks, gloves and safety glasses to protect themselves and their patients from infectious diseases.
· Writes prescriptions for antibiotics or other medications.
· Eliminates irritating margins of fillings and correct occlusions, using dental instruments.
· Analyzes or evaluates dental needs to determine changes or trends in patterns of dental disease.
· Manages business, employing and supervising staff and handling paperwork and insurance claims.
· Treats exposure of pulp by pulp capping, removal of pulp from pulp chamber, or root canal, using dental instruments.
· Applies fluoride or sealants to teeth.
· Bleaches, cleans, or polishes teeth to restore natural color.
· Fills pulp chamber and canal with endodontic materials.
· Removes diseased tissue, using surgical instruments.
· Performs oral or periodontal surgery on the jaw or mouth.
· Plans, organizes, or maintains dental health programs.
· Produces or evaluates dental health educational materials

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Doctoral degree (DDS) or equivalent; or more than 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: Dentrix Software; and Dexis Software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
· Dental license.
· Professional Liability.
· Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
· Drug Enforcement Association (DEA) Dental Certificate.
