Position Summary
The Buyer/C-store Category Manager is responsible for the daily management and procurement of product from vendors and suppliers and should be able to communicate and interact professionally, and courteously with other MGC departments to exchange information and achieve desired outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Handle assigned product lines and inventory management with specific metric accountability.
· Maintains service level and inventory objectives as defined by management.
· Maintains turn targets as defined by management.
· Manages on-time deliveries as defined by management by working with the Operations Department, carriers and suppliers.
· Conducts backorder reviews including purchase order expediting.
· Monitor out of stock report to create alternatives and to ensure we have a resolution to get the product delivered inbound.
· Monitor and distribute aged inventory to the purchasing team as to the status of their respective inventories monthly.
· Handle new items, maintenance, price changes and attain gross profit goals.
· Perform weekly inventory management activities to identify and manage excessive and obsolete inventory, taking required steps to obtain vendor return authorization or product disposition.
· Manage inventory of assigned vendors to ensure adequate supply while meeting or exceeding key performance indicators as follows:
o Inventory Loss Minimization
o Inventory Turnover
o Customer Order Fill Rates
o Excess and Obsolete Inventory Reserve
o Slow and Dead Inventory
o Special Order Process
· Become a subject matter expert on the purchasing system and replenishment processes
· Meets with vendors to review products, promotions, and marketing programs.
· Negotiate costs, discounts, and terms with manufacturers.
· Other duties assigned by president.
Education and/or Experience
· Minimum high school graduate, with some business and buying knowledge a plus. Minimum three years’ buying experience preferred. Customer service skills are essential.
· Must be able to effectively exercise independent judgment and decision making in executing replenishment and inventory management activities.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and possess strong organizational skills.
· Ability to meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
· Must have strong analytical, problem solving and multi-tasking skills.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to correspond effectively with vendors and managers.
· Proficient in all Microsoft office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
· Must be able to pass a background check
· Must be able to be insured with MVR records
Work Conditions
Position is privy to information that may be sensitive in nature and/or proprietary and knowledge of confidential information must not be divulged competitors.
Hours of Work
· Exempt position. May be required to attend functions outside normal business hours to promote and support the purchasing and sales department and company’s goals and objectives. Some travel may be required.
· The expectation of the company will be that a minimum of 5 days per week and 40 hours will be worked on a regular basis. The work schedule will vary depending on the workload and season but typically runs from 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. The workload will determine how many hours are necessary to complete the job. Additional hours and weekends may be required from time to time, depending upon workload and assignments.
