The East Saint Louis Learning Resource Center is currently seeking candidates for the role of Program Coordinator to provide programming services for the library. This responsibility encompasses co-planning, organization of dates and details, recruiting participants from the community by creating partnerships with local agencies.
The Program Coordinator also oversees the recruitment of presenters and follows up with details of said presenter's needs for their scheduled programming. The role demands an outgoing work mentality and personality, an attention to detail, and the ability to work with and in front of patrons of all ages to help facilitate library programs.It provides a wealth of informative skills in crucial areas such as community outreach, activity and program planning, resume writing, and interview skills.
Although the primary responsibility is program assistance and coordination, the role involves training in basic library circulation duties, and coverage of the circulation desk as required. Applicants should be outgoing individuals with program implementation experience, including marketing, willing to keep pace with emerging trends of library programming, possess an avid interest in best practice skills to incorporate, be able to teach basic computer usage and Word skills, basic skills tutoring needs of requesting program patrons, patron customer service, communication, children services, time management, and organization. This role will have direct involvement with children ages 0-18 in a variety of programs that engage with the LRC in addition to adults.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates with the LRC Program Director and Library Instructor on workshops of a variety of library topics such as community outreach, book clubs, youth programs, senior programs, and with classes that could include writing resumes, cover letters, successful job interviewing, soft skills, using employment databases and other career development resources for Career Services assistance.
- Assists with coordinating life-long learning, post secondary education, career exploration and job search for working age patrons. Uses judgement to evaluate the best method of research appropriate for programming events, uses these skills to resolve complex matters.
- Assists in supporting students who are in sessions for a GED, and/or TABE testing, and other basic skills tests needed to pass for program acceptance. Schedules one-on-one and group tutoring sessions for SIUE program participants, Charter High School students, TRIO Upward Bound students and LRC patrons, as requested for subject tutoring and summer programming.
- Coordinating with the LRC staff and the ESLC's marketing staff person for creating flyers, calendar additions, newsletter articles, social media posts, and other content needed to be distributed in the community to follow University policy for marketing.
Work Schedule: This position is full-time, requiring 37.5 hours per week. The standard work week runs from Monday to Friday, with working hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Library Science, Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
- 1 year of demonstrated experience performing duties related to the position
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science, Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Social Work, or related field.
- Formal or informal leader/mentor experience with a variety of teaching styles that can facilitate a group and one-on-one delivery.
- Superior ability to correspond and communicate effectively with internal and external patrons.
- Experience working with diverse populations to include high school students and adults of all ages.
- Skill in exercising judgement and decision making.
- Demonstrated time management skills; ability to multi-task.
- Demonstrated organizations skills.
