What Does a Swine & Sons Line Cook Do?
Line Cooks are responsible for setting and stocking their stations, completing daily prep work, cooking and plating food orders accurately and in a timely manner, and keeping the kitchen and storage areas clean and organized. Line cooks work as part of a close-knit team, so good communication skills and positivity are essential.
Line Cooks Must Have:
-One to two years of experience in a restaurant or hotel kitchen
-Ability to multitask and keep calm and organized during high volume service periods
-Reliable transportation
-Open availability –mornings, nights, weekends, and some holidays are required
-Ability to stand/walk for 8-10 hours
-Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
-Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation: ServeSafe certification or willingness to
become certified
-Basic knowledge of common food allergens
-A desire to work as part of a team, learn new techniques, and share knowledge with
teammates
Line Cooks Are Expected To:
-Execute station setup, stocking, cleaning, and breakdown with minimal supervision
-Follow instructions and communicate effectively with co-workers and leadership
-Complete food preparation tasks such as chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or
making sauces
-Follow recipes, prepare, and plate dishes correctly and consistently according to
company specifications
-Maintain food quality, cleanliness and a sense of calm during times of high volume
-Proactively use non-peak service time to prepare for peak service times and rushes
-Observe food safety and time/temperature standards
-Keep station clean, stocked, and organized
-Rotate and consolidate station and walk-in cooler using proper labeling and dating
techniques
-Communicate positively and effectively with other team members
-Complete daily and assigned cleaning tasks
-Coordinate preparation of mise en place with co-workers
-Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner
-Wash and organize dishes
-Assist with inventory counts as necessary
