The Sporting Services Associate will support all aspects of the sporting experiences offered at the Orvis Shooting Grounds at Pursell Farms. This individual will be involved in supporting the Wing Shooting and Fly-Fishing Schools, Sporting Clays, Guided Trips, and the Shooting Preserve. In this role, the Sporting Services Associate should strive to create a positive experience for customers beginning with the initial contact, and instill a strong sense of personal care and clear communication with our guests. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills along with customer service, guiding and instructional experience. Position Interfaces:
The position reports to the Clays and Upland Manager and will assist with the Clays, Upland and Fishing program, maintenance of the property and sporting activities. Position will interface regularly with the General Manager of Orvis Shooting Grounds and the Clays and Upland Manager.
General Responsibilities:
- Be an ambassador of the brand and instill the Orvis Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Culture in the entire team
- Maintain the property, clubhouse grounds, clays course
- Ensure the highest level of hospitality is always provided along with the complete satisfaction and comfort of all customers while interacting with the Sporting Services
- Assist with the course maintenance and operations, including setting targets and fixing machines
- Assist with maintenance of the property, mowing, spraying, cutting & trimming trees
- Serve as a trapper for wobble, five stand and/or clays groups, as needed
- Assist with wing shooting program in larger shoots
- Care for birds including daily maintenance of feeding, fresh water, and the catching and cleaning of harvested birds as needed
- Assist in daily fishing operations: guiding, and execute maintenance of organization of fishing equipment along with gear, boats, boathouse, motors, and batteries
- Provide assistance with tractor work including movement of clays course and assist with the cutting of lanes, along with upholding tractor and other utility vehicles.
Clays and Upland Program Responsibilities:
- Provide a quality experience and great customer service in all facets of operation
- Assist with clays and ammo inventory, stocking, maintenance of batteries as well as tasks to keep the clays course up and running
- Perform various projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Solid understanding of the Orvis Company and its Brand
- Ability to lift heavy items such as batteries, coolers, clay boxes, flats of ammo etc.
- Strong personal interaction skills and the ability to develop strong relationships.
Desired Qualifications:
- Background in shooting preserves and sporting clays
- Firsthand experience in the hospitality business
- Knowledge of fine shotguns
- Background in instruction and guided trips.
