Xiente, formerly known as Norris Square Community Alliance (NSCA), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming communities by empowering individuals to achieve economic mobility. Established in 1982 by a group of neighborhood women, Xiente has grown to address the comprehensive needs of the community, including affordable housing, community organizing, employment training, early childhood education, and youth development programs.

The Xiente Teen Center provides vital youth development opportunities, operating from 3 PM to 9 PM to engage teens in productive and educational activities. Additionally, the center serves as a safe haven for youth from 9 PM to 2 AM, offering support and services to those brought in by the police after curfew hours. This initiative ensures that young people have a secure environment where they can access essential resources and guidance during critical times.

About the Youth Mentor/Driver Position
We are looking for someone who is passionate about working in community services and has a great rapport with youths, and is committed to making a positive impact in their lives. The Driver is responsible for transporting youth from their home to the program site. The Driver will operate a 14-passenger van and follow all safety procedures. The Driver will notify the Supervisor of any vehicle issues and complete incident reports for any incident that occurs with the vehicle or with the youth in the vehicle. When not driving the vehicle, the Driver will provide program support while youth are in program. The Driver will have the opportunity to be involved in youth activities and assist program staff with the development of positive youth activities on the program. The driver will be expected to display a manner that is professional and respectful around contact with youth.
Xiente is seeking a Youth Mentor/Driver for our Youth Take Action Program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
As a vital member of Xiente's team, you will play a pivotal role in youth development by creating a nurturing and engaging environment for the youth in our community. Your responsibilities will include:
- Interact professionally with youth aged 10 to 19
- Provide homework assistance
- Implement standardized Xiente programs
- Create an engaging and enjoyable atmosphere for youth
- Supervise and support a group of students
- Maintain equipment and facilities
- Establish a safe place for youth
- Encourage and motivate youth participation in program activities
- Build positive relationships with families, school staff, and the community
- Drive a 14-passenger vehicle safely, handling pick-ups and drop-offs
- Navigate Philadelphia routes, especially 19133, 19122, 19134, 19140, 19124, 19120 areas
- Assist in site-based programs when not driving, including classroom support
- Maintain a clean vehicle and perform regular checkups; coordinate with a dealer or mechanic as needed
- Pay attention to detail and recognize/report any unsafe acts or conditions
- Follow oral and written instructions accurately
- Utilize computers and necessary software typically used by the department
- Assist at the Teen Center during the after-school program, focusing on safety and security
- Participate in Xiente community events and quarterly strategic meetings as required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a High School Diploma (Associate degree in human services or current college student in a related field preferred)
- Highly motivated individual with the ability to interact well with challenging youth or young adults
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to interact with individuals from diverse racial, cultural, educational, and economic backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and in a collaborative environment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and database management
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle documentation and paperwork efficiently
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Valid Driver's License with a good driving record; at least 2 years of driving experience, preferably with children, youth, or seniors
- Ability to drive a 12-passenger van
- Knowledge of SEPTA routes
- Familiarity with the Norris Square community and its service providers is a plus.
Schedule of the Position: Hours Varies from Monday to Friday between 2:00pm to 2:00am and Saturday and Sunday from 6:00pm to 2:00am.
