Aegis Aerospace is currently looking for a Software Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX.
Overview:
The purpose of this position is to develop software in support of the DOD Human-rated space Task Order (DHSTO) contract. This position will support projects for the DOD Space Test Program (STP) – Houston office on-site at Johnson Space Center (JSC). The software development team supports STP missions by providing applications to support testing of payloads, ground support equipment software, and operational ground software to communicate with, command, and control satellites and hosted payloads. This role supports multiple projects as required and coordinates with other software engineers and Command & Data Handling (C&DH) Engineers to accomplish project goals. Applicants will be responsible for contributing to development of software processes, documentation of code, participation in code reviews, software deployment support, and support for on-orbit operations as required. Applicants must have experience with software development tools including Git and GitLab or similar.

Responsibilities
- Development of software code in accordance with program software development processes
- Creation of code documentation
- Work with project teams to develop and document software requirements
- Develop system architectures to meet project, IT, and IS requirements
- Assist in implementing new software development tools and best practices
- Participate in code reviews
- Support project design reviews (Kickoff, PDR, CDR, MRR)
- Participate in regular team meetings to provide status and coordinate with teammates
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in computer science or a related discipline with 5-10 years’ experience in software development in a Windows and Linux environment.
- Experience with software development in one of the following languages:
- C/C++, VB .NET, Python
- Must have US Citizenship.
- Must be eligible for a Single Scope Background Investigation, to attain a Top Secret security clearance.
- Prior experience with agile software development processes
- Experience with executing software development projects from start to finish.
- Experienced technical problem solver.
- Experience working with GitLab, Jira, or similar software project management tools.
- Experience with interpersonal skills in a teaming environment where collaboration and communication are critical to the functioning of the team.
- Motivated self-starter willing to take initiative.
- Ability to occasionally travel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, project leads, customers, and with contract colleagues is essential.
- Ability to attain and maintain respect and confidence from the customer and contract personnel. A close, cooperative customer interface is essential.
- Strong, professional judgment in establishing objectives, milestones and priorities.
- Dedication to get the job done.
DESIRED:
- Current Top Secret security clearance
- Experience working on government contracts.
- Experience interfacing with government IT and IS representatives.
- Experience with hardware/software integration
- Experience with memory-safe languages such as Python, C#, Go, Ruby, Rust
- Experience interfacing with SQL databases
- Familiarity with communication using RS-422/485/232, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, or MIL-STD-1553B.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
