The City of St. Peters has a market-based salary structure consisting of progressive levels of pay according to defined position criteria. Potential to reach $33.00/hr. ($68,640.00 annual) at year three of employment. Current top of scale for this position is $38.83/hr. ($80,766.40 annual).
The City of St. Peters has an immediate opening for Utility Operator in the Water Environment Services Group (Utilities Department). The City’s Water Environment Services group provides water and wastewater services to approximately 22,000 residential and commercial customer accounts. The Utility Operator will perform duties associated with plant operations at both the City’s Water Treatment Plant and Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Ability to work a set rotating schedule that includes some holidays and every third weekend is required. This is a repeating rotation as follows: Work 7 days, off 2 days, work 5 days. Some extended shifts and overtime may be required.
The primary responsibilities of this position are:
- Monitors SCADA to operate and control electric motors, pumps, valves, and filters to regulate flow of water through the plant.
- Makes adjustments to chemical used to disinfect, clarify, and purify the water. Monitors SCADA to remotely adjust and control pumps, motors, and equipment to regulate pressures, water elevations, and flow of water in the distribution system.
- Filter operation to maintain water quality and determine backwashing scheduling.
- Collects and tests water samples from various process points to determine alkalinity, color, turbidity, pH, disinfection residuals, fluoride residuals, and settleability using various laboratory equipment.
- Maintains online instruments monitoring water quality.
- Records data such as test results, chemical dosages, weights, and volumes, water quality information, operational problems, and compliance monitoring as required by State and Federal regulations.
- Operates belt filter presses to dewater biosolids for use in composting.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
