Position Overview: The Houston Humane Society seeks a dynamic and visionary leader for the role of Director of Community Impact. The Director will be responsible for building community relations with government officials and community leaders and supervising a broad portfolio, including Education, Outreach, Pet Resources, Pets for Life(PLF), Volunteer Engagement, and Veterinary Social Work departments. This role is crucial in ensuring these departments work in harmony, operate efficiently, and align with our overarching vision and goals.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Community Relations Development:
- Engage with government officials and community leaders to represent and promote our stance on animal welfare.
- Analyze and address emerging animal welfare issues through strategic policy development.
- Departmental Supervision & Leadership:
- Guide the Education, Outreach, Pet Resources, Pets for Life (PFL), and Veterinary Social Work departments towards strategic growth and operational excellence.
- Foster inter-departmental collaboration to maximize impact.
- Mentor and develop department leaders, instilling a culture of excellence and improvement.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration:
- Collaborate with external partners and stakeholders to enhance our impact on animal welfare.
- Represent the organization at key events to advocate for animal welfare policies and initiatives.
- Program Development & Execution:
- Develop and refine programs aligned with our vision and mission.
- Assess and improve the effectiveness of existing programs, ensuring they reflect current best practices.
- Budgetary & Financial Oversight:
- Manage departmental budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
- Oversee grant applications and fundraising efforts for community impact initiatives.
- Regular Reporting:
- Prepare detailed reports for the President and CEO on departmental performances and policy progress.
- Present updates to the leadership team and stakeholders.
- Continuous Professional Development:
- Stay informed about trends, research, and best practices in animal welfare and community engagement.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President and CEO.
Supervision:
· Reports directly to the President and CEO.
· Supervises various department managers and coordinators.
Qualifications & Skills:
· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
· 7-10 years of experience in policy advocacy or community engagement, preferably in animal welfare.
· Proven leadership skills and experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
· Excellent communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.
· Strong relationship-building capabilities.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
