Compass Veterinary Neurology and Imaging (CVNI) is a privately-owned neurology, neurosurgery and imaging practice located in Annapolis, Maryland. We are located within the Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC), and work closely with the other services within the building. Equipped with advanced diagnostic imaging, CVNI provides timely surgical or non-surgical intervention for even the most challenging neurology cases. This position is intended to support our Board-Certified Neurologists as well as the rest of the clinical team.
Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Surgical and imaging anesthesia induction and intubation, monitoring,and maintenance of anesthesia, record keeping, knowledge of common anesthetic medications
- Mastery of knowledge of all surgical equipment/tools and assist with operation if applicable
- Sterile scrubbing, gowning, gloving for surgical assistance as needed
- Provide direction to level I/II surgical technician pre-, intra-, and postoperatively
- Develop analgesic protocol and make adjustments intra- and postoperatively as necessary for patient comfort and safety
- Coordinate care for hospitalized, imaging, and out-patients
- Enter and check charges daily for in-patients
- Review invoices for patients being discharged that day
- Receive morning rounds from AAVEC, prepare daily rounds for hospitalized patients
- Provide patient updates as requested
- Create accurate estimates for hospitalized patients and transfers
- Coordinate cases with imaging team
- OSHA Compliance documentation
- Log and track controlled drug use
- Maintain up to date legal documentation of controlled drugs
- Maintain up to date understanding and knowledge of anesthesia protocols
- CRI calculations, sterile technique, and operating room preparation
- Patient restraint, vital assessment, and IV catheter placement
- Participate morning rounds with the team
- Responsible for reviewing patient paperwork and case histories with the team
- Stock and maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Push, pull, lift and move up to 50 lbs
- All other duties as assigned
- Inpatient care including management of IV fluid pumps/lines, administration of oral and intravenous medications, and manual bladder expression
- Enter and update patient records
- Input medical information proficiently into ezyVet and VetRadar
- Appointment intake, history taking, and discharge
The technician position reports directly to the Technician Supervisor. The schedule for this position is a minimum of 40 hours per week with an on-call Saturday and Sunday rotation. Full time employees are eligible for company paid benefits after successful completion of their 90 day probationary period.
