POSITION SUMMARY:
The Regional Advising Manager will manage a team of College Affordability Advisors in their region who will work directly with high school seniors and/or post-secondary students to help them navigate the financial aid process.
This position requires a driven individual who will be an effective people manager with a primary focus on providing high-quality support to advising staff both at the individual level as well as supporting the team of advisors collectively in said region. The Regional Advising manager will lead with an emphasis on relationships, coaching, and problem-solving techniques to reach our shared, collective goals for maximum student engagement and impact. This individual will display confidence in leading a team of people through new initiatives and demonstrate openness and excitement to organizational opportunities. This individual would be required to lead through change while creating creative solutions to impact challenges.
The successful candidate is detail-oriented, well-organized, and possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills required to interact effectively with a broad range of stakeholders. The ideal candidate is innovative and interested in enhancing student engagement through both in-person and virtual advising modalities and is passionate about making a real impact on the lives of young people who are primarily low-income, students of color, and/or first-generation college students. They will be determined to help meet the needs of students and strive to continue to learn how to best remain relevant to students without having a regular in-person presence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
People Management:

Manage a team of College Affordability Advisors toward achieving programmatic goals related to virtual/text-message advising based on uAspire’s college affordability curriculum.

Ensure the team is set up for success by providing clear outcomes, assessing progress toward goals, and advising quality while growing and developing the team through coaching and regular feedback.

Cultivate a positive, supportive, equitable, and inclusive culture with the team by being approachable while providing management and support that meets the needs of each member of the team.

Develop a strong team and ensure strong staff engagement.

Encourage regular conversations about broader professional development within the team, connecting them to internal and external resources for their continued professional development.

Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and address any performance issues as needed.

Manage and facilitate team meetings.
Programmatic Management:
-
Resolve implementation challenges, solve complicated issues with the team and students, identify areas for program improvement, and effectively manage change.

Manage the project set-up, launch, and ongoing implementation while leveraging quantitative and qualitative data to monitor student/program impact, and continuously improve program delivery.

Assist with outreach and events to high school counselors and community partners to promote student engagement.

Assist with the development and facilitation of virtual and in-person events (ex. Financial Aid walkthroughs for students and families).
One uAspire Work:

Ensure that the advising program is upholding all grant requirements by working with the Regional Development teams and other stakeholders, attending meetings as needed, and reporting on progress.

Collaborate with other advising teams and departments across uAspire to provide support, share best practices and challenges, and learn from other teams to improve our student support.

Work with different departments on training elements and program content and delivery to ensure that this project operates within existing systems and helps inform new systems, content, etc.

Assist with other aspects of people management such as leading hiring processes and performance management.

Education, Experience & Skills:

Postsecondary degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.

Experience with online, app, or text-based communications, and willingness to work through the challenges that come with tech innovation and virtual advising.

Experience working with and motivating diverse college-aged populations, including Pell-eligible (low/moderate income) students of color and the first in their families to attend college.

Experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, non-profit setting preferred.

People and/or project management experience preferred.

Creative and resourceful problem solver.

Advanced organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize efficiently, deadline-focused, and effectively.

Proactive attitude, out-of-the-box thinking, and good sense of humor.

Ability to work occasional flexible hours that will include some early mornings, evenings, occasional weekends, and conferences.
ANTICIPATED START DATE: July 29, 2024
COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is $70,500- 75,800 depending on experience and competencies.
GRADE: IV
STATUS: Exempt, full time
LOCATION AND WORK ARRANGEMENT: NYC-based - Remote, Must reside in New York Metro area for events and in-person support
